Job Description

Job Summary

The Technical Manager – Architecture & Structure is responsible for leading and managing the technical engineering and coordination activities for architectural and structural works throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures that designs, drawings, BIM models, technical submittals, and construction activities comply with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, authority requirements, and quality expectations.

The Technical Manager will provide technical leadership to the project team and work closely with architects, structural engineers, BIM teams, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective multidisciplinary coordination, resolve complex technical issues, optimize designs, and achieve successful project delivery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage technical engineering activities for architectural and structural works throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical direction, guidance, and support to the technical, architectural, structural, and BIM teams.
  • Review and approve architectural and structural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, material submittals, technical reports, and other engineering documentation.
  • Lead the coordination of Architecture, Structural, MEP, and BIM disciplines to identify and resolve clashes, discrepancies, and constructability issues.
  • Lead BIM coordination activities, including model review, clash detection, multidisciplinary coordination, and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Ensure BIM models are properly coordinated and aligned with approved drawings, specifications, design requirements, and construction requirements.
  • Lead BIM coordination meetings and ensure timely closure of design clashes and technical issues.
  • Review and approve technical submittals, RFIs, method statements, material approvals, design changes, and other technical documentation.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve complex technical design and construction issues related to architectural and structural works.
  • Ensure that all technical deliverables comply with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, specifications, and authority requirements.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Lead value engineering, design optimization, and constructability reviews to improve project quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Monitor the technical quality and progress of architectural and structural works and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee QA/QC activities related to architectural and structural works and ensure compliance with approved standards and procedures.
  • Review site technical issues and provide practical, cost-effective, and technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Manage and maintain accurate technical records, drawings, BIM models, RFIs, submittals, approvals, and project documentation.
  • Contribute to project technical strategy, planning, and key technical decisions.
  • Monitor the performance and productivity of the technical team and provide clear objectives, priorities, and work plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE policies and project safety requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, digital engineering, and the effective use of AI tools to improve technical performance and productivity.
  • Manage multiple technical activities and workstreams while ensuring quality, cost, and schedule objectives are achieved.

Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of architectural and structural engineering principles, construction methods, detailing, and technical standards.
  • Extensive experience reviewing and managing architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Advanced BIM knowledge and practical experience in large-scale multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other relevant BIM/design software.
  • Advanced understanding of BIM workflows, model management, clash detection, multidisciplinary coordination, and digital construction processes.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural materials, finishes, structural systems, construction methods, and technical detailing.
  • Strong ability to identify and resolve complex design discrepancies, technical risks, coordination issues, and constructability challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC requirements for architectural and structural works.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable local and international building codes, standards, specifications, and authority requirements.
  • Good knowledge of project management, cost management, value engineering, construction planning, and risk management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and approve detailed method statements, technical reports, RFIs, and engineering documentation.
  • ERP knowledge is preferred; SAP functional knowledge is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, teams, and technical workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of AI tools and digital technologies to improve engineering analysis, BIM coordination, technical documentation, productivity, and decision-making.

Job Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience in architectural and structural works.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical management, senior technical, or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience in technical engineering, design management, technical coordination, and construction supervision.
  • Extensive experience in BIM management and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Strong experience coordinating Architecture, Structural, MEP, and BIM disciplines on large-scale construction projects.
  • Extensive experience reviewing and managing architectural and structural drawings, shop drawings, technical submittals, method statements, RFIs, and BIM models.
  • Proven experience managing and developing technical teams.
  • Experience working with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Previous experience as a Technical Manager, Senior Technical Manager, Technical Lead, or similar position is preferred.
  • GCC experience is preferred, particularly experience with local building codes, standards, and authority requirements.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, and effectively integrate AI tools and technologies into engineering, BIM coordination, technical documentation, analysis, problem-solving, productivity, and decision-making.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional certifications in BIM, Revit, Project Management, or related technical disciplines are an advantage.
  • Professional registration or membership with a recognized engineering or architectural professional body is preferred.
  • Additional qualifications in Project Management, BIM Management, or Engineering Management are an advantage.
