Technical Specialist (Clean Room / Nanofabrication) - Nanofabrication Core Lab

Position Summary

KAUST Nanofabrication Core Lab (NCL) is a world-class multidisciplinary laboratory supporting research in nanofabrication and nanotechnology. The role will support research (including semiconductors) at KAUST and regionally by providing expertise and support to staff, students, researchers and external users of the Class 100, Cleanroom laboratory. The experienced specialist will ensure high levels of uptime of equipment and help develop new capabilities for KAUST and the Kingdom. The role requires an experienced individual to work collaboratively

with university stakeholders and vendors to deliver advanced technologies, processes and services.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work in a team to deliver the highest level of service to maximize wet / chemical processes, wafer dicing/sawing, minimizing maintenance costs and meeting KPI targets.
  • Respond quickly to maintenance, calibration, process and troubleshooting requests
  • Complete assigned work at the highest possible level of quality and in a timely manner
  • When required, coordinate with other tool owners / vendors to schedule equipment maintenance
  • Identify required spare parts and facilitate the ordering process
  • Provide sufficiently detailed, frequent and easy to understand communications to team leads
  • Maintain service reports to record all service-related activities
  • Keep track of operational stock levels of consumables
  • Complete assigned requests for service (RFS) on time and to specified requirements.
  • Provide training to staff, researchers, students and external users
  • Document procedures for equipment operation, maintaining and reviewing regularly the standard operating procedures (SOP) and risk assessments.
  • Optimize and maintain standard processes, monitoring them regularly and recording data
  • Help with installation of new equipment and assist users and staff commission equipment
  • Ensure good laboratory practice and highlight non-compliance of laboratory policy and rules.
  • Identify areas for improvement in lab operations and suggest solutions.
  • Perform routine laboratory duties and maintenance, including administrative, procurement, service on task forces and committees
  • Other duties as assigned by the team lead and lab director

Personal Requirements

Competencies

  • Experienced in wide variety of nanofabrication cleanroom procedures and equipment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and demonstrable semiconductor processing and wet chemical workstation equipment skills/knowledge
  • Innovative and creative
  • Knowledge and experience in using relevant metrology tools such as stylus profilers and optical and electron microscopy
  • Experience with a wide range of semiconductor materials.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of cleanroom environments, standards and procedures
  • Good knowledge of advances in technology and potential vendors to be able to advise on equipment replacement and upgrades.
  • Experience and practical knowledge of handling and storing hazardous substances, risk assessing tools and processes and maintenance tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety protocols for chemical waste handling and storage and Personal protective equipment.
  • Efficiently manages a variety of accomplishing tasks independently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific subject

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years semiconductor wafer fabrication or micro-nano fabrication experience, including use of hazardous chemicals, in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience of training people in a cleanroom laboratory (preferred)
