Job Summary
The Tendering and Procurement Mechanical Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate mechanical tenders and managing the procurement of mechanical equipment and materials for construction or industrial projects. The role demands strong technical expertise, cost analysis, vendor management, and coordination with engineering and site teams to ensure the successful delivery of mechanical systems.
Tendering
Key Responsibilities
- Study tender documents, drawings, BOQs, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and other mechanical systems.
- Coordinate with design and engineering teams for technical proposal preparation.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure tender submissions meet technical compliance, commercial competitiveness, and submission deadlines.
- Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and clarification sessions with clients or consultants.
Procurement
- Source, evaluate, and select suppliers based on technical compliance, pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
- Prepare purchase orders and follow up on approvals and material delivery.
- Negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best commercial terms.
- Ensure all materials and equipment comply with project specifications and authority requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, supplier databases, and pricing logs.
- Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure the timely delivery of materials to the site.
Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in mechanical tendering and procurement (preferably within the MEP or construction industry).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, firefighting).
- Proficiency in MS Office, Revit, AutoCAD, and estimation/procurement software (e.g., CCS, SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
