Testing Engineer - Substation

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise testing and commissioning activities for substation projects.
• Conduct testing of HV/MV switchgear, transformers, CTs, PTs/VTs, circuit breakers, protection systems, control panels, batteries, chargers, and auxiliary systems.
• Carry out protection relay testing, functional checks, interlocking checks, trip circuit supervision, and control logic verification.
• Perform primary and secondary injection testing as required.
• Conduct insulation resistance, winding resistance, transformer ratio, polarity, and other relevant electrical tests.
• Review approved testing and commissioning procedures, drawings, specifications, and test formats.
• Coordinate testing activities with clients, consultants, contractors, OEMs, and site teams.
• Identify testing issues, troubleshoot faults, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Ensure all testing activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
• Prepare and maintain test reports, commissioning records, checklists, punch lists, and handover documentation.
• Verify test results against approved project requirements and applicable standards.
• Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and final handover activities.
• Coordinate with electrical installation teams to ensure equipment is ready for testing.
• Ensure proper calibration and availability of testing instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate testing records and provide regular progress updates to the project team.
• Ensure compliance with QA/QC, HSE, project specifications, and applicable electrical standards.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Relevant experience in Substation Testing & Commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with HV/MV substation equipment and protection systems.
• Good knowledge of electrical testing procedures, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Experience with testing equipment such as OMICRON, Megger, DOBLE, primary/secondary injection test kits, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of protection relays, control circuits, interlocking, and substation automation is an advantage.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues during testing and commissioning.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively under project deadlines.
