Job Description

Parsons is looking for an experienced Traction Power Systems Expert to deliver innovative and reliable traction power solutions for a landmark rail project. In this role you will be responsible for planning, design review, integration, and delivery of traction power systems for a major rail project. You will oversee system requirements, power supply strategies, interface management, testing and commissioning activities, and operational readiness to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient railway operations. The role will support the project from concept and design through procurement, testing, commissioning, and operational handover.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the planning, development, and integration of traction power systems across all project stages.
  • Review and coordinate the design of substations, switching stations, overhead contact systems (OCS), third rail systems (where applicable), and associated power distribution networks.
  • Ensure integration between traction power systems and rolling stock, signalling, SCADA, communications, depot systems, and operational interfaces.
  • Support development of system requirements, design criteria, performance specifications, and operational philosophies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with civil, structural, MEP, railway systems, and operational stakeholders.
  • Support Systems Engineering activities including requirements management, interface management, verification, validation, and traceability.
  • Review Design and Construct tender documentation, technical specifications, and contractor submissions.
  • Support development and implementation of testing and commissioning strategies including FAT, SAT, SIT, energization, and integrated testing activities.
  • Identify and manage technical, operational, and integration risks associated with traction power systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable railway standards, electrical codes, safety requirements, and project specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership and support throughout project delivery.

What Required Skills You'll Bring


  • Relevant Engineering Degree (Electrical Engineering or equivalent) from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the management of design and/or construction of rail projects. Experience in rail traction power systems for metro, high-speed, intercity, or express railway projects.
  • Professional certification or membership with a recognized engineering institution is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in traction power systems, substations, OCS, power distribution, and railway electrification.
  • Strong understanding of integration with SCADA, signalling, rolling stock, communications, and depot systems.
  • Experience with testing, commissioning, energization, and operational readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with EN, IEC, IEEE, AREMA, and other international railway standards.
  • Strong Systems Engineering and interface management capabilities.
