Tyre Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze damaged tyres to identify causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence and reduce losses.
  • Track recurring failure patterns and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve tyre life and utilisation.
  • Support improvement initiatives that reduce scrap rates and increase average service hours of tyres.

Systems, Reporting & Technical Documentation

  • Record tyre movements, changes, and technical actions in the tyre management system to ensure traceable history.
  • Maintain SAP entries relevant to tyre work execution to support reporting, governance, and work control.
  • Issue daily/weekly/monthly technical reports on tyre condition, scheduled work, and unplanned events to leadership.

Inventory & Procurement Support (Data-Driven)

  • Identify tyre, rim, and consumable requirements based on condition, consumption, and forecasted work demand.
  • Provide inventory and consumption data to support procurement planning and prevent stock-outs impacting operations.
  • Validate tyre and rim stock records with stores to ensure accuracy and readiness for planned maintenance.

B. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) / Compliance Duties

Tyre & Rim Safety-Critical Controls

  • Enforce tyre/rim safe-work procedures and ensure team compliance with site rules and critical controls.
  • Apply safe deflation and inflation practices, including controlling exposure to lock-ring trajectory hazards.
  • Ensure tyre bay risk assessments and controls are followed for heavy handling, high pressure, and stored energy.

Quality and Compliance Documentation

  • Maintain accurate inspection and repair records to support compliance evidence and continuous improvement reporting.
  • Report safety hazards, near-misses, and tyre-related incidents promptly and support investigations when required.

C. Leadership / People / Team Management

Frontline Supervision & Capability Development

  • Lead and coach tyre bay team members to follow technical standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Conduct task briefings and verify competency for high-risk tyre activities before work commences.
  • Monitor team performance and discipline, addressing non-compliance and escalating capability gaps to management.

D. Financial / Budget / Asset / Resource Management

Tyre Cost and Asset Utilisation Support

  • Support tyre cost control by improving tyre life through correct maintenance, condition-based decisions, and reduced losses.
  • Provide data to support annual consumption planning and proactive purchasing strategies for tyres and rims.
  • Recommend operational adjustments based on observed tyre damage trends to reduce waste and premature failures.

Job Requirements :

A. Minimum Education Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Engineering Technology (or related).
  • Supervised practical exposure to OTR tyre bay operations and tyre/rim safety controls.

B. Preferred Education / Certifications (if any)

  • Formal tyre/wheel/rim safety and management training aligned to mining controls and SOPs.
  • Training certificate for tyre management system use (Kling or SGM system).
  • Supervisory training (frontline leadership / coaching).

C. Required Professional Licenses / Permits

  • Valid driving license.
  • Tyre handler / tyre loader operating licence (required where used on site).

D. Required Work Experience

  • Minimum 6 years experience working with heavy equipment tyres, preferably in mining environments.
  • Experience supervising tyre bay teams and managing tyre inspection, change, and repair workflows.
  • Experience using maintenance systems (SAP) and tyre program tracking tools for reporting and traceability.

E. Required Technical Skills & Knowledge

Technical Knowledge:

  • Stored-energy hazards for earthmover tyres and multi-piece rims (lock-ring/trajectory risk).
  • Safe inflation/deflation principles (remote inflation, clip-on chuck, stand clear, controlled deflation).
