PETRONAS Canada has a unique opportunity to offer an international assignment to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a 3-year term. PETRONAS Abu Dhabi is in the early stages of appraisal of a 500,000 acre onshore unconventional parcel of land with substantial potential oil resource. This asset has the prospect to be a significant part of PETRONAS global unconventional assets portfolio and offers you the chance to be part of a meaningful early-stage growth project.
The initial multi-year appraisal period will focus on defining reservoir quality and variability type curve baseline and repeatability and estimated ultimate recovery. The first drilling campaign is planned for early 2024.
The project is a joint venture between PETRONAS Abu Dhabi, a wholly owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). PETRONAS will hold 100 per cent equity and operatorship to explore and appraise unconventional oil in the concession area for a period of up to six years. Following a successful appraisal phase, the partners can enter a production and development concession, in which ADNOC has the option to participate with up to 50 per cent stake.
The RoleWe have an incredible expatriate opportunity for a skilled and ambitious individual to join our team in Abu Dhabi, as the Unconventional Geology and Geophysics Lead. Reporting directly to the Head of Unconventional Technical & Operations, you will take charge of geological and geophysical studies, field execution activities, and development strategies. This pivotal role offers a unique blend of challenges and rewards as you lead programs and initiatives that will drive our company towards greater success.
In this exciting new role, you will utilize your extensive industry expertise to evaluate unconventional assets and implement best-in-class practices across various plays and basins. You will remain at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies and trends, incorporating them into our processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. As an experienced and collaborative leader, you will manage project deliverables and timelines across multiple PETRONAS OPU's, fostering teamwork and partnerships to drive alignment and achieve our goals. This is an expatriate position that requires relocation to Abu Dhabi for a 3-year term.

How You Will Contribute- Lead the geological and geophysical program design, studies, operations, as well as analysis of activities related to seismic interpretation, geomodelling, core analysis, geochemistry studies, geo-steering, sample/log acquisition and interpretation
- Monitor quality and completeness of geotechnical data, activities and services provided. Establish efficient operational and workflow processes and procedures while adhering to professional practice principles as well as manage cross-functional relationships to resolve issues and drive initiatives
- Apply technical expertise to support geological and geophysical initiatives and activities, support the operation of geotechnical programs and prospects, as well as identify opportunities to enhance processes and outcomes, driving technical innovation by applying Unconventional technologies and best practices
- Conduct detailed technical evaluations and provide development strategies and recommendations to senior leadership on exploration/exploitation initiatives
- Manage department operational, capital and staff budgets which includes preparing forecasts and projections
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other PETRONAS OPU's, parent company, and partners. Provide mentorship and coaching while sharing technical expertise to accelerate the advancement of the local Unconventional industry
- Lead by example in promoting a culture of safety, innovation, integrity, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary functional groups. Encourage alignment, information sharing, and analysis to achieve optimal integrated solutions for the business
What You Bring- A Bachelor's Degree in Geoscience and a professional designation
- 20+ years of experience with 10+ years of experience working on multiple gas and oil unconventional resource plays
- Exposure to MENA basins would be an asset
- Significant experience in evaluating large-scale unconventional oil and gas acquisition opportunities
- Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively work with cross functional teams and engage others to support projects and initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to tailor messages appropriately to address the target audience
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A creative and forward-thinking attitude, combined with a keen eye for detail
- Strong project-management skills, with demonstrated competency to multi-task and be agile when priorities change
