The Utilities & Building Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all plant utilities, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and other building-related technical systems within the facility. This role is responsible for maintaining utility equipment efficiency and appropriate indoor climatic conditions to support sustainable manufacturing of products, while adhering to safety, quality and sustainability standards.
Scope of Accountability
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all utility systems and building infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted production processes.
- Ensure that air conditioning and ventilation systems across various areas of the facility function efficiently, maintaining optimal temperatures for both equipment and goods.
- Ensure that utilities & building maintenance supports the operational, environmental, and safety objectives of the facility while driving continuous improvement.
Main Tasks
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems, including air conditioners, ventilation systems, and related equipment.
- Lead and coordinate the activities of own maintenance staff, ensuring task prioritization and alignment with operational goals.
- Install, inspect, and test air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and related components.
- Diagnose and repair faults in air conditioning systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.
- Monitor energy consumption related to HVAC systems and identify opportunities for energy-saving initiatives.
- Prevent the environmental factors, such as excessive heat or humidity, from affecting the quality of goods or the efficiency of production processes.
- Assist the Maintenance Manager in planning and executing utility upgrades or modifications to support increased production capacity or new product lines.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Lead building improvement projects, including renovations and expansions, ensuring alignment with budgets, timelines, and sustainability targets.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs, upgrades, and service delivery to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Identify risks to utility systems and infrastructure, develop contingency plans, and implement rapid response measures to ensure operational continuity.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, food safety standards, and environmental policies across all maintenance activities, including audits and inspections.
- Facilitate audits by preparing data, coordinating inspections, and addressing non-conformances to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with other maintenance team members to support overall facility operations.
- Lead and motivate Utilities and Building Maintenance Team, fostering effective communication and collaboration to achieve operational objectives.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and prepare reports on performance, challenges, and actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Certification in HVAC, Energy Management, or Facilities Management is a plus.
Experience
5+ years of experience in utilities and building maintenance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience in the food industry is a must.
