Job Description

VAS Operations & Support Engineer

Location: Doha, Qatar

Experience: 3–5 Years

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Mode: Onsite

About the Role

We are looking for a VAS Operations & Support Engineer to manage and support live Telecom Value Added Services (VAS) platforms in a production environment.

This is a hands-on operations and production support role. The engineer will be responsible for monitoring platform health, troubleshooting service issues, restoring services, performing preventive maintenance, handling incidents and changes, and ensuring the stability and availability of critical VAS applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong practical experience in Telecom VAS operations, combined with hands-on troubleshooting across Linux/Unix, databases, APIs, application logs, and scripting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and support live Telecom VAS platforms and applications in a production environment.
  • Monitor platform health, system performance, alarms, service KPIs, capacity, and availability.
  • Perform daily health checks and identify potential service degradation before it impacts customers.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across applications, Linux/Unix servers, databases, APIs, interfaces, connectivity, and messaging services.
  • Analyze application, system, database, and network logs/traces to identify the root cause of incidents.
  • Restore services within agreed SLAs and coordinate with relevant technical teams when escalation is required.
  • Manage production incidents, problems, and changes, including investigation, resolution, validation, and closure.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major and recurring incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Execute preventive maintenance, application upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and other operational activities.
  • Support High Availability, failover, backup/restore, disaster recovery, and service continuity activities.
  • Work closely with NOC, IT, Network, Security, Application, Database, and vendor teams to resolve complex production issues.
  • Coordinate with technology vendors for troubleshooting, technical escalations, fixes, and service improvements.
  • Maintain operational documentation including SOPs, MOPs, troubleshooting guides, health-check procedures, and RCA reports.
  • Develop scripts and automation to simplify repetitive operational tasks, health checks, monitoring, reporting, and log analysis.
  • Use Python, Shell/Bash, SQL, and REST APIs to support automation and operational activities.
  • Contribute to improvements in monitoring, automation, resilience, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in standby/on-call support for critical production services when required.

Mandatory Technical Experience

The candidate should have professional, hands-on experience with:

  • Telecom VAS / Value Added Services
  • Production Support / Application Support / Operations & Maintenance
  • Linux / Unix
  • SQL / Databases
  • REST APIs and API troubleshooting
  • Python and/or Shell/Bash scripting
  • Application and system log analysis
  • Monitoring, alarms, and KPI analysis
  • Incident, Problem, and Change Management
  • Production troubleshooting and service restoration

VAS / Telecom Platform Exposure

Experience supporting one or more of the following Telecom VAS environments will be relevant:

  • SMS / Messaging platforms
  • SMSC / SMPP
  • USSD
  • Voice and Content Services
  • Device Management platforms
  • eSIM / Entitlement platforms
  • VAS application platforms
  • API-based Telecom services
  • Other carrier-grade Telecom Value Added Services

What the Role Requires

We are specifically looking for an engineer who has worked on live Telecom VAS platforms and handled their day-to-day production operations.

The person should be comfortable working through an issue from alarm/incident detection → log and system investigation → troubleshooting → service restoration → RCA → preventive action.

Strong candidates will have experience working across the application, operating system, database, API, and connectivity layers, rather than only monitoring one component.

The role requires someone who can independently handle production issues, coordinate with multiple technical teams and vendors, and take ownership of service availability and operational stability.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a 24x7 Telecom Operations / Production Support environment.
  • Experience with High Availability, Disaster Recovery, backup/restore, and failover.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and operational dashboards.
  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, DevOps, Cloud, AI/AIOps, or GenAI-based operational automation will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with telecom protocols such as SMPP, Diameter, SIGTRAN, or similar is beneficial.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Telecom Engineering, or a related technical field.

Important

This role is focused on Telecom VAS Production Operations and Support.

Profiles that are primarily Network Engineers, Software Developers, QA/Test Engineers, Project Managers, Product Managers, or IT Infrastructure Engineers without substantial professional experience in Telecom VAS production support/O&M will not align with the role.
