About the JobRole Description

A Vehicle Diagnostic Technician is responsible for diagnosing, testing, and identifying mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in vehicles using specialized diagnostic equipment and technical procedures. The role involves analyzing vehicle systems, interpreting diagnostic results, identifying the root causes of faults, and supporting accurate and efficient vehicle repairs.

The position is suitable for candidates with automotive diagnostic experience, technical training, or practical hands-on knowledge of modern vehicle systems. Experience with computerized vehicle diagnostics and electronic systems is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic inspections on vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
  • Use diagnostic scanners, testing equipment, and specialized tools to identify vehicle system problems.
  • Connect and operate vehicle diagnostic equipment and interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Diagnose faults in engine management, transmission, braking, steering, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
  • Inspect vehicle sensors, control modules, wiring, connectors, and electronic components.
  • Conduct electrical and electronic system testing using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Analyze diagnostic data and determine the root cause of vehicle faults.
  • Perform system scans and functional tests after repairs.
  • Verify vehicle performance and confirm that identified problems have been properly resolved.
  • Assist mechanics and service technicians with complex diagnostic issues.
  • Inspect warning lights and electronic fault indicators and determine their causes.
  • Diagnose starting, charging, ignition, and battery-related problems.
  • Diagnose communication faults between vehicle electronic control modules.
  • Support diagnostics for modern vehicles equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
  • Maintain accurate records of diagnostic findings, repairs, and testing results.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommended repairs to service advisors or supervisors.
  • Follow manufacturer diagnostic procedures, technical specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Keep diagnostic tools and equipment clean, calibrated, and properly maintained.
  • Stay updated on new vehicle technologies, diagnostic systems, and technical procedures.
  • Perform other diagnostic and technical duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, technical diploma, or automotive qualification.
  • Previous experience in vehicle diagnostics or automotive repair is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Experience using computerized vehicle diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic trouble codes and technical information.
  • Knowledge of engine management, transmission, braking, charging, and vehicle electrical systems.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate diagnosis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an automotive service team.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in a workshop environment.
  • Valid UAE driving licence is an advantage.
