Job Description - VMware Technical Specialist

Location: Dubai, UAE

Experience: 15+ Years in Enterprise Infrastructure (with 6+ years on VMware platforms)

Job Type: Full-Time | 24x7 Operational Support Environment

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced VMware Technical Specialist to join our enterprise infrastructure team supporting a large enterprise environment. This individual will be the SME and operational owner of VMware technologies while leading a multi-tiered technical team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate deep VMware expertise and strong cross-domain knowledge in Windows/Linux systems, Backup & Storage, Networking, and Infrastructure Security. The role requires end-to-end ownership of capacity management, license compliance, reporting, service improvement planning, and team enablement.

Key Responsibilities

VMware Infrastructure (Core Focus)

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize production VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T, Horizon).
  • Administer advanced VMware features: VCF Suite, DRS, SRM, HA, snapshots, vMotion, host affinity rules.
  • End-to-end capacity management of compute, storage, and resource pools.
  • Oversee VMware licensing: entitlement tracking, renewals, and audit compliance.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues across hosts, clusters, and storage fabrics.

Cross-Domain Infrastructure Support

  • Oversee technical operations across Windows, Linux, Backup, Storage, and Network layers.
  • Coordinate with Backup/Storage teams on retention, performance, and recoverability.
  • Collaborate with network and firewall teams for VLAN, NSX, and perimeter-related changes.
  • Guide teams during patching, firmware updates, and hardware lifecycle events.

Infrastructure Security Collaboration

  • Work closely with IT Security for remediation, hardening, and compliance audits.
  • Ensure secure provisioning of all infrastructure assets and change implementation.
  • Participate in vulnerability scans, penetration test remediations, and RCA reviews.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead a multi-tier team (L1, L2, L3 engineers) and act as escalation point for complex issues.
  • Design and implement automation workflows to improve repeatability and reduce MTTR.
  • Drive and implement Service Improvement Plans (SIPs) across virtualization and infra domains.
  • Deliver weekly/monthly dashboards, capacity forecasts, risk reports, and health assessments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6+ years of hands-on VMware administration (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX-T).
  • Solid understanding of Windows Server, Linux OS, and enterprise backup/storage systems.
  • Experience in leading infra operations, with strong capacity planning and VMware licensing exposure.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure security and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with automation/scripting (PowerCLI, Python, Ansible) is a plus.
  • Certifications: VCP-DCV/VCAP is a must.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and work across multiple domains.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a drive for continuous improvement
