WordPress Technical Lead

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced WordPress Technical Lead to review, restructure, and lead the development of our WordPress-based platform.

This role combines deep technical expertise, team leadership, and business understanding to ensure the website is scalable, secure, high-performing, and aligned with business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Direction: Lead architecture and codebase reviews, evaluate themes/plugins, identify bottlenecks, security risks, and technical debt, and determine the best approach (custom development vs. plugins) to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Team Leadership: Mentor and guide WordPress developers, define and enforce coding standards, run code reviews, prioritize backlog, assign tasks, and drive efficient technical delivery while improving team workflows and collaboration.

Business Alignment: Convert business and product requirements into solid technical solutions, partner with product, marketing, and management, and align decisions with growth, conversions, and user experience goals while balancing cost, time, and quality.

Quality Control: Oversee deployments and releases, ensure clean and documented code, maintain security best practices, optimize SEO and performance metrics (Core Web Vitals, caching, database efficiency, accessibility), and deliver regular technical audits with actionable insights.

System Integration: Lead API and third-party integrations, custom functionality development, and platform extensions with a focus on reliability and seamless data flow.

Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the main technical contact between development, design, and business teams, communicate challenges clearly, and provide structured solution roadmaps and implementation alignment.

Platform Optimization: Drive continuous improvements in security hardening, backend efficiency, frontend responsiveness, server resource usage, caching strategy, and overall platform performance.

Technical Skills

5+ years of experience working with WordPress

Strong knowledge of WordPress core, hooks, actions, and filters

Advanced experience in custom themes and plugin development

Solid understanding of PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Experience with performance optimization and caching

Knowledge of WordPress security best practices

Familiarity with REST API and integration

Experience with Git and modern development workflows

Leadership & Soft Skills

Proven experience leading or mentoring a development team

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to review and refactor poor-quality code

Excellent communication skills

Strong understanding of business and product requirements
