Role Overview:

The Jira Administrator is responsible for administering, configuring, and enhancing Jira and its associated Atlassian tools to support operational, engineering, and service-management workflows. This includes creating and maintaining projects, workflows, custom fields, permissions, automation rules, integrations, dashboards, and reporting. The Jira Administrator works closely with the Service Desk, Systems Support teams, Engineering, and Process Specialists to ensure Jira remains aligned with operational needs, supports ITSM processes, and provides consistent and efficient user experience across the organization

Role Responsibilities:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Jira Cloud or Jira Server/Data Center environments.
  • Create and manage projects, issue types, screens, fields, workflows, and permission schemes.
  • Implement and maintain Jira Service Management configurations, including request types, SLAs, queues, automation rules, and customer portals.
  • Configure and optimize workflows to support operational processes such as Incident, Change, Problem, and Service Request Management.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and filters to support operational metrics, SLA tracking, engineering KPIs, and team visibility.
  • Manage user access, groups, permissions, and role assignments in accordance with security and compliance standards.
  • Implement automation rules (native Jira automation or add-ons) to streamline issue handling, notifications, escalations, and data consistency.
  • Support integrations between Jira and tools such as Confluence, Slack/Teams, GitLab, monitoring/alerting systems, or other ITSM/DevOps platforms.
  • Maintain repositories of reusable templates for workflows, request types, forms, and dashboard layouts.
  • Troubleshoot Jira issues related to configuration, workflows, performance, permissions, and user access.
  • Work closely with Process Specialists to ensure Jira configurations align with ITIL/ITSM best practices and internal process requirements.
  • Partner with engineering teams to support CI/CD, deployment pipelines, and project tracking requirements.
  • Conduct periodic audits of configurations, custom fields, and workflows to ensure consistency and reduce system complexity.
  • Support training and onboarding of new users by preparing documentation, guides, and best-practice materials.
  • Coordinate with Atlassian support or vendors when advanced troubleshooting or version upgrades are required.
  • Assist with version upgrades, add-on/plugin evaluations, testing, and implementation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Jira governance, configuration standards, and operational tooling practices.

Required experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 35 years of hands-on experience administering Jira in enterprise or multi-team environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Jira configuration, schemes, workflows, and advanced administration functions.
  • Experience with Jira Service Management, including SLAs, queues, request types, portals, and automations.
  • Familiarity with ITIL or ITSM frameworks and the ability to translate operational processes into Jira workflows.
  • Experience with Confluence administration and integration is an advantage.
  • Exposure to DevOps tooling (GitLab, Jenkins, ArgoCD, monitoring tools, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for resolving configuration and user issues.
  • Experience with automation (Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, or other marketplace add-ons) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of other ITSM platforms (such as ServiceNow, ManageEngine, or Freshservice) is preferred.
  • Understanding of access control, user provisioning, and permission models.
  • Strong documentation skills and the ability to create user guides and best-practice mate-rials.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with support, engineering, and process teams.
  • Atlassian certifications (ACP-120, ACP-620, ACP-420, etc.) are an advantage.
