Overview of the Role:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timely recording and reporting of financial transactions. The role ensures compliance with accounting standards, company policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls while supporting financial reporting, audit activities, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.
What You Will Do:
Accounting Operations & Financial Control
- Manage and oversee daily accounting activities to ensure financial transactions are accurately and timely recorded.
- Review journal entries, general ledger balances, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of accounting records and financial data.
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure proper segregation of duties across accounting processes.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, outstanding balances, and financial exceptions in a timely manner.
Financial Closing & Reporting
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing activities and ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepare and review account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, management reports, and other reporting requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of financial information to internal stakeholders and management.
- Analyze financial data and trends and provide insights to support business and financial decision-making.
Governance, Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Support internal and external audit activities and ensure timely provision of required documentation and information.
- Monitor audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented and followed through.
- Conduct regular reviews of accounting processes and controls to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks related to accounting processes.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to strengthen the accounting control environment.
- Monitor key accounting risks and exceptions and escalate significant issues to management when required.
- Ensure proper documentation and follow-up of identified control issues.
Process Optimization & Automation
- Drive standardization, process improvement, and automation initiatives across accounting operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality of financial reporting.
- Collaborate with Finance and IT teams to enhance ERP systems, reporting tools, and accounting processes.
- Support the implementation of new financial systems, system enhancements, and finance transformation initiatives.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Treasury, Tax, Controlling, Procurement, and other relevant business functions.
- Act as a key point of contact for accounting-related matters with internal stakeholders and auditors.
- Provide accounting guidance and support to business units and other finance teams.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
Team Management & Development
- Manage, coach, and develop the accounting team to ensure strong performance and operational efficiency.
- Allocate workload effectively and ensure the team meets operational and financial reporting deadlines.
- Set clear objectives and monitor team performance through regular feedback and development discussions.
- Identify development opportunities and support the professional growth of team members.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance working environment.
Required Skills to Be Successful:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial closing processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good understanding of audit, compliance, and risk management principles.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within strict deadlines.
What Qualifies You for the Role:
Experience:
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance Operations, or Shared Services.
- Proven experience in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, reconciliations, controls, and financial closing activities.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a large and fast-paced organization is preferred.
