The Department/ College

The College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS), which also houses the Department of Environmental Sciences and Sustainability (ESS), is firmly grounded in the UAE's determination to build a sustainable future while preserving the integrity of its traditions. The College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in key areas that promote the study of issues related to environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability. The majors in the College take a broad, multidisciplinary approach to identifying and addressing the complex, intertwined areas of modern society and its sustainable relationship to the natural environment. CNHS students are uniquely equipped, through research and internship experience, to understand and to work at the intersections of the traditional disciplines of the cultural, social, humanitarian, political, scientific and technological fields.

The Department of ESS offers both undergraduate and graduate programs designed to meet the UAE's expanding environmental and sustainability needs. The undergraduate program provides a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science and Sustainability (BSESS), established to address the complex and intertwined requirements of modern society while fostering a sustainable relationship with the natural environment. This high-quality, interdisciplinary program is accredited by The Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability Sciences (MSESS), responding to the growing demand for research and advanced studies. This graduate program focuses on national priorities, including the maintenance of safe and healthy living and working environments, to support the UAE's sustainability goals.

The Opportunity

The Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Physics. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's mission of preparing future environmental scientists and engineers for the UAE, while demonstrating leadership in curriculum development, research, and academic service.

We seek a candidate with expertise in Environmental Physics who can deliver high-quality teaching and research that support the Environmental Science and Sustainability program, as well as related courses in engineering and architecture. The ideal candidate will also contribute to the development of innovative, interdisciplinary courses and programs that advance sustainability education and research across disciplines.

Job Description

• Teach undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MSc) courses within the Department of Environmental Sciences and Sustainability.

• Carry a teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year.

• Actively participate in departmental and college service activities, including committee work and community outreach initiatives.

• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the effective delivery and continuous improvement of undergraduate and graduate programs.

• Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in the ESS programs.

• Demonstrate leadership in research in Physics, supported by a strong and consistent record of peer-reviewed publications.

• Engage in professional development, including participation in academic conferences and relevant professional associations.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and/or the Department Chair.

The Requirements

• Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physics with a strong focus on physics and/or applications to environmental science and environmental sustainability at the time of appointment from a recognized university.
• The capacity to teach and research in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Evidence of teaching excellence and experience.
• A student-centred and innovative approach to teaching.
• Strong profile of innovative research in Physics, with a record of publications in leading international scientific journals in the area of specialization.
• Preference will be given to those who are able to teach courses at the undergraduate & graduate level in Physics on our Dubai campus.
• The candidate is expected to start in the next academic semester starting in August 2026.
