JOB PURPOSE:
Carry out routine checks and minor maintenance/repair duties on engines and other mechanical equipment and tools on assigned onshore/offshore drilling rig and assists in major repairs and overhauls. Assist in rig moves and monitors engines and machinery in the absence of Mechanic. Undertake the duties of the Mechanic (Rig) during short periods of the Mechanicu2019s absence, for whatever reason and including emergency situations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Job Specific Accountabilities
uF0B7 Undertakes the routine maintenance and servicing of engines and ancillary equipment according to schedules, checklist and specific requirements. Duties include changing oils, cleaning strainers and filters and greasing and topping up hydraulic oils as required. Keeps engine rooms, engines, pumps, tools clean and tidy.
uF0B7 Undertakes non-routine minor repairs to engines and ancillary equipment and reports to Mechanic faults that are beyond capabilities or require use of shore/workshop facilities.
uF0B7 Assists in routine and non-routine major repairs and overhauls of engines, pumps, generators, hydraulic machinery and other mechanical equipment.
uF0B7 Observes rig safety rules and procedures and watches for unsafe practices, oil spillage, and leaking pipes. Includes ensuring that appropriate work permits are issued for all maintenance and repair work, covering oil spills with absorbent materials and working in dangerous areas as necessary.
uF0B7 Receives a daily checklist of equipment outside engine room from Motorman and initiates corrective action as necessary and in accordance with established procedure. Supplements the report with his own inspection where necessary to ascertain and confirm the report.
uF0B7 Maintains engine room equipment at optimal running conditions as instructed. Includes dismantling, cleaning, re-assembling and re-commissioning various engine components, such as fuel oil centrifuge, raw/fresh water filters, bilge pump strainers and the like. Isolates such units prior to commencement by closing correct valves. Uses acid to clean heat exchangers.
uF0B7 Carries out other similar or related duties such as operating all lifesaving and firefighting equipment on assigned rig as necessary, maintaining engine daily log book, advising Mechanic of daily consumption of water and diesel, practicing good housekeeping in engine room area and workshop.
uF0B7 Comply with all UAE, ADNOC, ADNOC Drilling and client Asset Integrity Management codes of practice.

COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal
uF0B7 Regular contacts with personnel at own or next higher level to exchange and/or receive information
regarding the running of engines and ancillary equipment.
External
uF0B7 None.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification
uF0B7 Completion of Secondary (12 years) education followed by 2 years full time training in a mechanical
trade preferably diesel engines.

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
uF0B7 4 years experience in operating and repairing diesel engines and including a period of approximatelyu00A02 years as Motorman.
uF0B7 Good knowledge of English.
