The role requires strong selling skills to support commercial teams, solid technical knowledge of fire-rated door systems and materials, and excellent communication to liaise with project, manufacturing and site teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate practical problem-solving when addressing design, constructability and manufacturability issues, and will ensure drawings are accurate, compliant and fit for production.

  • Produce accurate quantity take-offs, cut lists and bills of materials (BOM) from drawings to support estimation and procurement.
  • Collaborate with estimators and sales colleagues to translate client requirements into viable technical proposals; support pre-sales meetings and technical clarifications with clear drawings and persuasive explanations.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings, identify clashes, compliance gaps and constructability issues; propose practical, cost-effective solutions and document rationale for client and internal review.
  • Specify appropriate materials, fire-rated cores, seals, hardware and finishes on drawings and schedules to meet performance, durability and maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate design inputs with engineering, manufacturing and site teams to ensure manufacturable detailing and smooth handover to production and installation.
  • Maintain and update drawing libraries, standard details and CAD templates; ensure version control and compliance with company drawing standards.
  • Respond to technical queries from clients, subcontractors and site teams in a timely and clear manner; prepare revision drawings and site-as-built documentation as required.
  • Support site surveys, installation checks and commissioning activities; provide on-site drawing clarifications and troubleshooting to resolve issues efficiently.

Skills & Competencies

  • Selling skills: ability to support commercial conversations by presenting technical solutions clearly, identifying value drivers and addressing client objections professionally.
  • Technical knowledge: strong experience using AutoCAD to produce shop and fabrication drawings for doors, frames and joinery; understanding of fire-rating principles, relevant standards and hardware selection.
  • Communication skills: clear written and verbal communication for interfacing with clients, estimators, engineers, manufacturing and site teams; competent in preparing technical notes and drawing transmittals.
  • Problem solving: practical, methodical approach to resolving design, manufacturing and site issues; ability to propose alternatives that balance compliance, cost and delivery.
  • Attention to detail: high level of accuracy in drawings, BOMs and documentation; disciplined approach to version control and CAD standards.
  • IT proficiency: proficient with AutoCAD; experience with ERP/estimation systems and MS Office applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 36 years experience producing shop drawings for fire-rated doors, joinery or similar architectural metalwork.
  • Proven experience using AutoCAD (2D and basic 3D) to industry-standard drawing practices.
  • Practical understanding of fire-rated door construction, hardware, seals and testing/certification requirements.
  • Demonstrable ability to support sales or tender processes with technical input and client-facing communication.
  • Good command of English, both written and verbal; ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A degree, diploma or certification in draughting, mechanical/architectural technology or a related discipline is desirable.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. Applicants should be available to join within a reasonable notice period.
