Job Purpose:
The job holder is responsible for providing essential support for researchers through providing guidance in study design, data analysis and interpretation. The Biostatistician will ensure the integrity and accuracy of statistical methodologies, contributing to the advancement of scientific research and healthcare.
Core Responsibilities
Study Design and Planning:
Study Design: Collaborate with researchers to design robust, statistically sound research studies, including clinical trials, observational studies, and other types of investigations.
Sample Size Calculation: Determine appropriate sample sizes for studies to ensure sufficient statistical power.
Protocol Development: Contribute to the development of study protocols, including statistical analysis plans.
Data Analysis:
Statistical Analysis: Perform statistical analyses using advanced statistical software and methodologies, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and advanced modeling techniques.
Data Management: Work with data management teams to ensure data quality and integrity for analysis.
Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures to detect and address anomalies and inconsistencies in datasets.
Reporting and Interpretation:
Results Interpretation: Interpret statistical results in the context of research hypotheses and provide insights and recommendations to researchers.
Manuscript Preparation: Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, reports, posters, and presentations, ensuring accurate and clear representation of statistical findings.
Grant Applications: Provide statistical input for grant applications, including methodology descriptions and power analysis.
Consultation and Guidance:
Research Support: Provide ongoing statistical support and consultation to researchers throughout the study lifecycle, from proposal development to final analysis.
Education: Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate researchers and staff on statistical methods and best practices.
Software and Tools:
Software Utilization: Utilize statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, and others to perform analyses.
Tool Development: Develop and maintain statistical tools, scripts, and macros to streamline analysis processes.
Compliance and Regulatory:
Ethical Standards: Ensure all statistical analyses comply with ethical guidelines, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.
Documentation: Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all statistical analyses and methodologies used in research projects.
Continuing Education:
Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in statistical methodologies, software, and industry trends through continuous education and professional development.
Knowledge Sharing: Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and the broader research community to promote best practices in biostatistics.
Educational Requirements:
Masters degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related advanced program.
Overall Experience:
3+ years of experience in biostatistics, including experience with clinical trials and healthcare research
Extensive experience in performing statistical analyses using advanced statistical software and methodologies.
Proven experience in collaborating with research teams to design studies, analyze data, and interpret results.
Experience in working with external partners and institutions.
