  • Provide technical development and implementation of low complexity engineering solutions through the application of defined engineering standards and governance.
  • Provide internal stakeholders with appropriate professional advice to ensure the development or delivery of high quality, tested engineering solutions.
  • Undertake on-site risk-based monitoring and surveillance of works as required, resolving and or escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply appropriate solutions to low risk/value/complexity engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
  • Support continuous improvement using best practice, innovation, cost optimization and effective root cause analysis.
  • Review and approve alignment design concepts, ensuring they align with project objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Recommend design modifications to enhance Wheel-Rail interface, improve asset lifetime and performance, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Technical Coordination: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams (civil, mechanical, electrical, signaling, rolling stock, PSD) to ensure alignment integration with other railway systems.
  • Conduct risk analysis on proposed alignment designs, identifying potential safety or operational issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that alignment designs comply with local, national, and international standards (e.g., EN, AREMA, UIC).
  • Oversee the preparation of horizontal and vertical alignment designs using software like AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley Rail Track.
  • Review and assess submitted design reports, drawings, and alignment specifications.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders (clients, authorities, design consultants) to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Work with survey teams to ensure accurate topographical data is used in alignment designs.
  • Ensure alignment designs account for environmental impact and sustainable practices.
  • Oversee the translation of alignment designs into on-site construction, ensuring strict adherence to design parameters.
  • Supervise the accurate setting out of alignment on-site using advanced surveying techniques (GPS, Total Station).
  • Address and resolve any alignment-related design conflicts during construction.
  • Monitor construction quality to ensure the alignment meets design specifications and safety standards.
  • Review and comment on materials used for track foundation and other alignment elements.
  • Ensure alignment works are compatible with other system installations (PSD, Traction, Signaling).
  • Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with alignment designs and quality standards.
  • Provide clarification and guidance on alignment design to the construction team.
  • Regularly report on alignment construction progress to project management.
  • Supervise the inspection of the completed alignment to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Ensure alignment meets all operational safety standards.
  • Identify, record, and report any alignment defects discovered during testing.
  • Ensure alignment systems are compatible with other railway subsystems during testing.
  • Oversee test runs of rolling stock on the completed alignment to validate performance.
  • Review final alignment records and ensure all deficiencies are rectified.
  • Ensure rectification of any defects identified during the final inspection.
  • Ensure all alignment systems have necessary certifications and approvals from relevant authorities.
  • Document lessons learned during the project to improve future alignment design and implementation practices.
  • Propose and implement innovative alignment design techniques to enhance project quality and efficiency.
  • Continuously review alignment designs to identify opportunities for cost and time savings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for alignment-related discussions internally and with the consultants, and contractors.
  • Any additional responsibilities as advised by the direct Line manager or higher management.
