Job Description
Position Overview:TheSubstation Structural Engineeris responsible for the structural design, analysis, and detailing of substations ranging from 380kV, 115kV to 33kV . The role involves designing both precast and cast-in-situ structures, underground Utilities , and foundations for outdoor equipment, while adhering to applicable standards, safety regulations, and project requirements. The engineer will also coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, safe, and Optimized structural solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Design and Analysis
- Design and analyze structural systems forsubstation buildings(380kV, 115kV, 33kV) including precast and cast-in-situ components.
- Perform structural analysis and design ofcable tunnels, cable trenches, duct banks, manholes, hand holes, septic tanks, soak pits, and underground water tanks.
- Design outdoor equipment foundations, such as:
- Surge arresters
- Power transformers&firewalls
- Static VAR Generator (SVG) foundation structures.
- Gantry tower foundations
- PACU pads, etc
- Ensure designs comply with structural codes, load requirements, seismic considerations, and site-specific conditions.
- Architectural and Civil Coordination
- Interpret and integrate substationarchitectural plans, elevation drawings, and section layouts.
- Developsite grading plans, including topography analysis, levelling, and contour adjustments to optimize foundation levels and drainage solutions.
- Designinternal and access roadswithin substations, ensuring alignment with site topography and grading requirements.
- Software Proficiency
- UtilizeSTAAD ProandETABSfor structural modelling, analysis, and design of complex substation structures.
- Draft and detail structural layouts, plans, and sections usingAutoCADandMicro Station.
- Perform site grading, earthworks modelling, and topographical layout designs usingCivil 3D.
- Develop design documentation, load calculations, and reports usingMicrosoft Exceland other calculation tools.
- Quality and Compliance
- Ensure structural designs comply with international design codes (e.g., ACI, SBC, AISC, IBC, or regional standards).
- Coordinate with other Disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical teams, & EPC Contractor) to align designs with project requirements.
- Conduct design reviews, peer checks, and ensure accuracy, efficiency, and constructability of designs.
My profile
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master's degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in the structural design of high-voltage substations or similar infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Structural analysis and design software:STAAD Pro, ETABS
- Drafting tools:AutoCAD, Micro Station
- Site grading and topographical design tools:Civil 3D
- Documentation tools:Microsoft Excelfor calculations and reporting
- Familiarity with international structural design codes (e.g., SBC,ACI, AISC, IBC).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
