Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant (Chief Accountant) with strong experience in the marine engineering or heavy engineering sector. The role is responsible for cost control, project accounting, financial reporting, and compliance, while supporting the Finance Manager in managing accurate financial records and improving cost efficiency across projects and operations.

Key Responsibilities

Costing & Project Accounting

  • Prepare and monitor job costing and project-wise cost analysis for marine engineering projects (dry dock, ship repair, fabrication, offshore works).
  • Track material, labor, subcontracting, and overhead costs against budgets.
  • Analyze cost variances and provide recommendations to control overruns.
  • Maintain accurate WIP (Work-in-Progress) and project profitability reports.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Maintain complete books of accounts in compliance with IFRS regulations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Handle GL accounting, journal entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations.
  • Assist in monthly closing activities and preparation of management accounts.

Budgeting & Controls

  • Support preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Review procurement, inventory, and consumption records to ensure cost accuracy.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with VAT regulations, including VAT returns and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation for statutory and internal audits.

Inventory & Asset Management

  • Monitor inventory valuation, slow-moving stock, and consumption controls.
  • Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

Team & Management Support

  • Support the Finance Manager with financial analysis and decision-making inputs.
  • Coordinate with project, procurement, and operations teams on cost-related matters.
  • Supervise junior accounting staff, if applicable.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
  • Cost Accounting qualification (ICMA / CMA / equivalent) preferred
  • Experience:
  • 45 years of experience in accounting and costing in applying country
  • Mandatory experience in marine engineering, shipyard, construction, or heavy machine manufacturing sector
  • Immediate joiners required
