Job Description

Cost Control Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Cost Control Engineer to join our project controls team and play a key role in ensuring effective financial management across large-scale projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and controlling project costs to ensure budget compliance and optimal resource utilization.

This position is critical in providing accurate cost visibility, supporting project decision-making, mitigating financial risks, and contributing to the successful delivery of projects within approved budgets.

YOUR ROLE

As Cost Control Engineer, you will

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Support estimation activities by providing cost trend analysis and historical data insights.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to revise forecasts based on project progress and changing requirements.

Cost Tracking & Analysis

  • Monitor project expenditures including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead costs.
  • Analyze cost performance against budget and identify variances.
  • Investigate deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date cost tracking systems and records.

Change Management & Variation Control

  • Evaluate cost impacts of project changes, variations, and scope modifications.
  • Update project forecasts and cost reports following approved changes.
  • Ensure transparent communication of cost implications to stakeholders.

Cost Reporting

  • Prepare detailed cost reports, including: Cost-to-Complete (CTC), Cost Variance Analysis, Cash Flow Forecasts, Budget Performance Reports
  • Present financial updates and cost insights to project teams and management.
  • Support decision-making through timely and accurate reporting.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential cost-related risks and assess their financial implications.
  • Recommend and support implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute cost-related data and analysis to project risk assessments.

Cost Database & Benchmarking

  • Maintain project cost databases and historical cost records.
  • Support benchmarking initiatives using historical project data.
  • Improve forecasting accuracy through standardized cost information management.

Stakeholder Support

  • Serve as a key point of contact for cost-related inquiries.
  • Participate in project review meetings and provide financial insights.
  • Promote cost-control best practices across project teams.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Cost Control, Project Controls, or Project Cost Management.
  • Proven experience working on large-scale projects within the Oil & Gas, Civil Engineering, or Power sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP) certification from AACE International or equivalent. (preferred)

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex cost data and financial information.
  • Proficiency in cost control software and project controls systems.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and cost reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation management skills.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC contract standards and commercial practices.
