Job Purpose

The role holder is responsible for managing the planning, design, and delivery of cultural and heritage conservation projects across AlUla, Khaybar, and Tayma, ensuring adherence to technical standards, regulatory requirements, and international heritage preservation principles. The role exists to safeguard the integrity, authenticity, and operability of heritage sites, enhance visitor cultural experiences, support World Heritage recognition efforts.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Manage architectural and related aspects of conservation projects for heritage sites to ensure the protection, integrity, and authenticity of cultural assets in alignment with national and international conservation standards
  • Ensure the evaluation and selection of contractors and consultants for conservation, design, and restoration works to secure technical compliance, quality delivery, and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Manage compliance with applicable planning, construction, heritage, safety and environmental regulations by conducting regular audits to ensure all projects meet required standards.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of documentation protocols to maintain accurate, thorough, and timely records of all conservation and development activities for regulatory and knowledge-management purposes.
  • Develop and review design and development proposals for cultural and heritage assets to ensure technical alignment with conservation objectives and site-specific requirements, and oversee delivery as Business Owner or in a similar role.
  • Represent the Department in project discussions and public forums to advocate best practices for heritage conservation and promote awareness of cultural preservation initiatives.
  • Plan and direct the initiation, execution, and delivery of heritage development programs to meet defined objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Manage risk assessments for cultural and heritage assets to identify potential threats and implement appropriate mitigation measures, ensuring asset protection and regulatory compliance.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the preparation of the Department's or Section's annual budget and monitor the financial performance of the Department or Section.
  • Develop the Department's or Section's objectives, KPIs, annual operational plans and ensure plan execution is meeting the targets
  • Ensure effective staffing, professional development and deployment of staff of the Department or Section in consultation with the Sector Executive or (Executive) Director.
  • Implement and execute the Department's or Section's policies and procedures. Oversee the overall performance of the section and ensure KPI's are well developed, cascaded, communicated and monitored.
  • Provide input to the sector's strategy from the Department's or Section's perspective in line with RCU overall vision and mission.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree Preferred) in Archeology, Anthropology, History, Art & Culture, Cultural Heritage Management, or a related field.

Work Experience

  • 6 years of relevant experience and 2 years in a managerial role

  • Written and Oral proficiency of Arabic and English languages.
