Device Driver Engineer
Embedded Linux / Open WRT
Reports to: Embedded Linux/OpenWRT Engineer (Lead)
Location: India
About the Role
Writes and maintains the kernel-level drivers that let the device's operating system talk to its specific radio chipsets and peripherals — the layer between the OS image and the physical hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Linux kernel drivers (C/C++) for the device's radio chipsets (Wi-Fi/LTE/BLE) and onboard peripherals (sensors, storage, GPIO, power management)
- Debug hardware/firmware interaction issues alongside the Embedded Systems Engineer during board bring-up
- Upstream or maintain out-of-tree kernel patches required for new hardware revisions
- Write and maintain unit/integration tests for driver code, coordinating with the QA/Test Engineer on hardware-in-the-loop coverage
- Document driver interfaces and known hardware quirks for the rest of the squad
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional C/C++ development, including 2+ years writing Linux kernel or kernel-adjacent (userspace driver, HAL) code
- Experience with at least one radio/networking chipset vendor SDK (Qualcomm, MediaTek, Realtek, Nordic, or similar)
- Comfortable reading datasheets and chip errata, and debugging at the register level
- Familiar with version control and code review workflows in a small, fast-moving team
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with BLE stacks or GATT services
- Experience with Open WRT or another embedded Linux distribution
- Exposure to RF test equipment or hardware-in-the-loop test rigs
Tech Stack
C/C++, Linux kernel device drivers, OpenWRT, I2C/SPI/UART, radio chipset vendor SDKs
What Success Looks Like (First Two Quarters)
