Purpose of the Job
The Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's strategic position across the dynamic AMEA region. In this high‑impact leadership role, you will engage with top‑level government bodies, regulators, strategic partners, and industry influencers to drive policy advocacy, market access, and long‑term partnerships that fuel our growth and ambitions. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, ensuring ENGIE's voice is heard on the region's most important energy and sustainability challenges.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including government bodies, offtakes, partners, industry associations, and the media.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic clients, partners, embassies, and industry leaders to drive business objectives and foster long-term partnerships.
- Lead the identification, negotiation, and execution of strategic partnerships programs and collaborations to enhance the company's market position in collaboration with Business development team.
- Drive ENGIE's strategic positioning through active engagement with stakeholders to influence regulations, policies, and bidding frameworks, and to strengthen competitiveness, operational excellence, and brand image
- Support cross-functional teams to align business development efforts with overall corporate goals and objectives.
- Support the development teams with nurturing effective client engagement both existing and prospective to benefit growth from account management and new business.
- Government Affairs: Monitor regulatory developments, engage with Energy & Water sector policymakers, regulators, executers and advocate for the organization's interests in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Provide strategic guidance on corporate affairs, managing public affairs & relations, and ensuring a positive company image.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify potential opportunities and threats
- Crisis Management: Lead crisis communication efforts, providing timely and accurate information during challenging situations to protect the organization's reputation.
- Public Relations: Strategize and implement effective public relations campaigns in coordination with the communications team to enhance the organization's public image and reputation.
- Media Relations: Manage relationships with the media, including press releases, interviews, and proactive outreach to secure positive coverage, in coordination with the communications team.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Oversee CSR initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company's values and contributing positively to the community
- Internal Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the organization, keeping employees informed about key developments and fostering a positive corporate culture.
- Prepare and present regular reports to the executive team, highlighting key market and business development metrics, achievements, and challenges.
- Provide full support to Engie office on ad-hoc tasks and initiatives.
- Provide support to Engie strategies and executions
Skills Required:
- Languages: Arabic (required), English (required), French (desirable)
- Excellent government stakeholders relations
- Excellent understanding of the government structure and interworking
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Preferred knowledge of the energy industry and or decarbonization solutions such as Cogeneration & Desalination plants, Renewables (Solar PV & wind) and Battery Energy Storage.
- Proven experience in business development, corporate affairs, or related roles within a senior management capacity.
- Strong understanding of industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes.
- Self-starter with exceptional interpersonal, organizational, negotiations, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships at all levels.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement innovative market and business development plans.
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and be flexible with changing business needs in a challenging development team environment.
- Structured thinker with a great ability to juggle a busy and varied workload, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to manage and resolve conflicted situations
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office software; particularly MS PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Experienced in the preparation of structured reports
- A responsive team player, dedicated to business growth and supporting the Business Development team
- Able to use initiative, bring new ideas to the team, and has a desire to continuously improve
- A keen belief in the importance of decarbonisation to face the climate change, an advocate of the energy services industry as a conduit to achieve those goals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years related experience, preferably with a government entity
Other Requirements:
- Must be available to travel, with the need for some overnight trips
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
