Accountabilities:
- Conduct comprehensive in-class and in-vehicle driver training for new and experienced drivers, covering defensive driving techniques, vehicle operation, and safety protocols.
- Evaluate driver performance through practical assessments and provide constructive feedback and personalized coaching to improve driving competencies.
- Develop, update, and maintain driver training materials, curriculum, and training schedules to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all training activities, including attendance, performance evaluations, and certifications.
- Assist in the investigation of vehicle accidents and incidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Conduct routine safety audits and vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with company policies, regulations, and safety standards.
- Promote safety awareness through regular communication, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and targeted training initiatives across all driver levels.
- Stay current with all applicable transportation and safety regulations and state-specific requirements, and communicate updates to drivers.
- Monitor driver compliance with safety policies and procedures, identifying non-compliance issues and escalating concerns to management.
- Coordinate with management to develop and implement corrective action plans for drivers with safety violations or performance issues.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections with drivers to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and safe for operation.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to new and underperforming drivers, establishing performance improvement plans where necessary.
- Participate in emergency response drills and preparedness activities, ensuring all drivers understand emergency procedures and protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of vehicle telematics systems and driver monitoring tools, using data to identify training needs and performance trends.
- Prepare training reports and performance summaries for management review and documentation purposes.
Collaborate with HR and management to identify training gaps and recommend professional development opportunities for drivers.
Role Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Certified Driver Instructor qualification.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience as a commercial driver.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a driver training or safety-related role.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Able to travel to CCBCSA sites.
Technical Competencies
- Proficient in operating various types of commercial vehicles (Class 8 trucks, tractor-trailers, etc.).
- Knowledge of modern vehicle safety technologies and features.
- Familiarity with telematics and driver monitoring systems for performance analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to use training management systems and learning management platforms.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and pre-trip inspection procedures.
