Job Description

We are hiring an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in grid-scale solar commissioning to support the final commissioning, testing, and handover phases of a large-scale solar PV project in Saudi Arabia.

This is a full-time, on-site contract role for 6 months, based at the project site in a remote area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical commissioning activities for grid-scale solar PV systems, including inverters, transformers, MV/HV switchgear, SCADA integration, and grid interconnection points.
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, test procedures, and checklists for AC/DC systems, string testing, array performance verification, and ratio-metric testing.
  • Perform pre-commissioning inspections, functional testing, and performance ratio (PR) assessments to ensure systems meet design specifications and grid code compliance (e.g., SEC standards).
  • Coordinate with EPC teams, O&M contractors, grid operators, and client representatives to resolve commissioning issues, punch list items, and achieve provisional acceptance.
  • Analyze test data using tools like power quality analyzers, FLIR thermography, and SCADA software; prepare detailed commissioning reports and handover documentation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults, synchronization challenges, and anti-islanding tests; support energization and parallel operation with the grid.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to HSE protocols, quality standards (ISO 9001), and project timelines for a multi-hundred MW utility-scale plant.
  • Train junior technicians and local staff on commissioning best practices and O&M handover processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in electrical engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in grid-scale solar PV commissioning (500+ MW projects), including utility-scale inverters and substation integration.
  • Proven track record on large solar farms in the Middle East or hot climates, with familiarity with Saudi grid codes.
  • Proficiency in commissioning software/tools: ETAP/PSCET for modeling, OTDR/hi-pot testers, and solar simulation tools (PVSyst).
  • Strong understanding of IEC 62446, IEEE standards, and grid compliance for reactive power, voltage ride-through, and frequency response.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines in a high-pressure site environment.
  • Valid Saudi Iqama or eligibility for work visa; immediate availability preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with bifacial modules, tracker systems, or BESS integration in solar projects.
  • PMP or similar project management certification.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH HSE certification for site safety leadership.

Employment Details

  • Duration: 6 months full-time on-site
  • Location: Solar project site in Saudi Arabia (accommodation and transport provided).
  • Start Date: Immediate (ASAP).
