ROLE SUMMARY
The position supports in managing fire and life safety risks across airport facilities and operations. The role is responsible for conducting detailed fire safety engineering assessments for existing assets and new developments, ensuring compliance with UAE Civil Defence, NFPA, GCAA, and Abu Dhabi EHSMS Regulatory Framework requirements.
The role provides technical fire engineering input to identify risks, develop mitigation measures, and recommend practical, risk-based solutions to achieve regulatory compliance and operational safety objectives. This includes reviewing fire protection systems, life safety provisions, and performance-based fire engineering solutions where applicable.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Deploy Abu Dhabi Airports fire, life, and safety programs to obtain and maintain certifications and meet national and international regulations.
- Conduct annual fire safety reviews of all operational buildings to ensure adherence to the Airport Fire Safety Strategy.
- Ensure compliance with UAE Civil Defense, NFPA, Abu Dhabi EHSMS, GCAA, and Municipality regulations for fire and safety in buildings.
- Seek building certification based on classification by the UAE Fire Code Council.
- Support the development of fire, life, and safety intervention and evacuation procedures for all buildings across AIRPORTS and subsidiaries.
- Provide fire, life, and safety architecture design for buildings in coordination with the design and engineering department.
- Ensure provision of fire protection measures, including fire exits, detection and warning systems, firefighting equipment, and emergency evacuation plans.
- Inspect fire stop assemblies and report damage, alterations, or breaches for quick repair and restoration.
- Conduct regular inspections of hydrants and equipment at AD AIRPORTS properties to ensure operational readiness for emergencies.
- Support the development of sectional and departmental objectives and plans in line with AD AIRPORTS's strategic performance management framework and scorecard.
- Maintain awareness and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide input during periodic audits of established policies and procedures.
- Recommend remedial actions to address quality or non-compliance issues identified during report reviews.
- Develop and review Fire Safety Strategies / Fire Engineering Reports for new and existing facilities
- Lead technical coordination with UAE Civil Defense, GCAA, and local authorities during design reviews, inspections, and certification processes.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering / Fire Science or similar discipline.
- Certification in NEBOSH Fire & Safety Risk Management is preferred
- NFPA / IFE / IFSM Membership and affiliation is preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with installation, testing, commissioning, handover and maintenance of fire systems.
- Experience in fire safety strategy development and fire engineering reports
- Essential knowledge of UAE Civil Defence fire code and respective NFPA standards.
- Experience liaising with UAE Civil Defense, municipalities, and approving authorities
- Essential to have strong communication, report writing and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills to use tablets, auditing software, MS Office and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with fire modelling and evacuation tools (where applicable), such as: FDS, Pathfinder, STEPS, or equivalent
- Knowledge of emergency management
- Fire engineering working experience within the GCC or UAE is preferred
- Airport fire & life safety working experience is preferred
- Emergency Management experience is preferred
