Role Summary

We are looking for a dedicated Environmental Manager to oversee environmental compliance during railway capacity upgrade projects. The role involves managing the environmental impacts of earthworks, drainage modifications, and construction along an active heavy haul freight corridor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement environmental requirements on site and support the Environmental Manager (or deputize in their absence) in day-to-day compliance monitoring across all construction activities.
  • Review site controls including dust suppression, noise monitoring, waste management, spill response protocols, and habitat/vegetation protection measures; verify proper implementation by contractors.
  • Support environmental inspections and audits; document findings, prepare reports, and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Coordinate environmental deliverables and maintain accurate records (monitoring logs, inspection reports, permits, waste manifests) for internal audits, regulatory submissions, and project handover.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for new passing loops, sidings, and industrial spurs along operational rail corridors.
  • Manage environmental aspects of earthworks, piling, and drainage modifications adjacent to live tracks.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities to secure necessary environmental permits and approvals.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 12-15 years of experience in environmental management on infrastructure projects.
  • Experience on heavy haul freight rail or mining rail projects is an added advantage.
  • Proven track record managing environmental aspects of brownfield construction (working near live tracks).
  • Strong knowledge of local environmental regulations and international standards (IFC/World Bank).
  • Experience with environmental monitoring equipment (dust, noise, vibration) and reporting protocols.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills for audit and handover requirements.
