Job Objective:
Supervise the safe repair, maintenance, and availability of Caterpillar Hydraulic Mining
Shovels (e.g., Cat 60**/6040 Backhoe & Face Shovel) operating in the open-pit. Effectively manage assembly, commissioning, operation support, and product support of Caterpillar HMS and related support equipment.
Job Description/ Duties:
Maintenance
- Develop world-class maintenance practices for HMS equipment, based on previous practical experience, to provide customer satisfaction by:
- Carry out hands-on technical analysis, troubleshooting and repairs, on site and in the Open Pit mine, always sharing working methods developed through experience, with local staff to develop their skills.
- Provide technical assistance for HMS product to other sites running similar equipment in other locations, by phone, email or in person.
- Provide hands on technical training and mentoring of National staff to develop their skills and therefore increase the number of staff capable of working on this specialized equipment and field.
- Liaise with customers site management to determine what support the customer would like Mantrac to provide.
- Develop and assess major repair or rebuild works and develops plans to maintain agreed equipment availability and budget requirements where applicable.
- Ensure optimum utilization of labor, using planned repair times from past experience, including subcontract labor.
- If not fully utilized on HMS work assists with other dealership technical work.
Machine Delivery, Assembly & Commissioning
Throughout the assembly phase, liaises with :-
- Mantrac sales departments regarding specification, sourcing of additional items based on experience and installation specifications.
- Local contractors, to ensure timely completion of work and that all work is to the required standard.
- Staff to supervise the assembly process, hands on where needed.
- Mantrac to ensure staff are available for installation assistance, start up and maintenance as and when required.
- Customers staff and management to ensure all work is carried out in line with customer site policies and that a time line is agreed with the customer and is complied with.
Equipment Condition Analysis
- Analyze all system data as required and investigate the reason for events. Take corrective action if required.
- Manage the health of the equipment and assess any problems using available resource or contacting suppliers.
- Ensure oil samples are taken at every service, reports analyzed and acted upon.
- Ensure fuel samples are taken on a scheduled basis and sent for analysis.
- Ensure daily inspections are carried out on all equipment as required by the manufacturer or industry standard.
- Ensure load data is monitored and recorded for analysis and reporting, weekly & monthly.
Supply Chain & Inventory (If required)
- Develop suggested parts lists (fast-moving, critical spares, repair kits) for equipment, site, branch or territory.
- Work with supply chain to ensure parts, GET, fluids, and consumables availability; manage core returns and warranty parts handling.
- Oversee site supply chain issues to ensure parts & lubricant requirements are met.
Reporting & Documentation
- Provide Failure analysis report for each of the technical issues arises, repairs completed and apply Failure analysis guidelines & Practices as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records, technical reports,
- Provide a monthly report covering all work carried out, key areas of opportunity and key issues for development or continuous improvement.
Site Management & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage site equipment warranty issues so that contractual arrangements are adhered to and assist the Service Department Management in achieving fair and reasonable warranty cost settlements.
- Identify staff training needs and implement a plan to meet those needs.Consider career path development.
- Ensure all site mandatory requirements are met e.g. safety and site inductions.
- Ensure all site mandatory requirements are met with regard to environmental control.
- Effectively manage regular toolbox sessions for site staff.
- Maintain a positive relationship with customer's key decision makers to influence their future purchases of prime products.
- Ensure that repair target hours are achieved or reduced without a negative impact on quality.
Housekeeping
- All areas of the operations under control to be kept clean and tidy at all times, contamination control is of paramount importance. Contamination control and safety audits to be carried out monthly.
Technical
- Provide technical support to staff on the ground to ensure troubleshooting is carried out accurately
- Ensure all rebuild standards and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure the Alignment with the Manufacturer Contamination control practices
- Supervises and trains staff on the job to ensure repairs and services are carried out correctly.
- Provided technical advice to other operations as and when needed
- Carry out safety tests to ensure all safety systems are working correctly
- Documents all safety steps taken before working equipment, risk analysis, take five etc.
Job Qualifications:
- Min. 10 years experience of repairing and maintaining Caterpillar HMS mining equipment
- Experience with all systems on Caterpillar 6040, 6030,60** and other open pit mining equipment
- Hands on troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of systems on the above machines, Cat ET, SIS
- Caterpillar shovels training courses attended
- Knowledge of other Cat systems such as HIS, VIMS and SOS interpretation
- Valid Driving license
