(Fuel Filter/Separator Technician / Filtration & Quality Systems Technician)
The Filtration Technician is a specialist technician responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and performance monitoring of all fuel filtration and separation equipment within the fuel farm and hydrant system. This includes filter/water separator (F/WS) vessels, filter monitor (FM) vessels, coalescer elements, microfilter cartridges, differential pressure gauges, and associated sampling points and drain systems.
The primary mission of this role is to ensure that all fuel passing through the filtration system is free of water contamination and particulate matter before it reaches the aircraft, thereby protecting aircraft engines and ensuring flight safety. Key responsibilities include performing scheduled element change-outs in accordance with EI 1581 and JIG requirements (based on differential pressure limits or time intervals), conducting pre- and post-change quality checks, inspecting vessel internals for corrosion or debris, maintaining calibrated differential pressure monitoring equipment, and ensuring that all filtration-related records are accurately maintained.
The Filtration Technician also supports the Fuel Quality Supervisor in investigating any fuel quality anomalies that may be related to filtration performance, and liaises with filter element suppliers regarding technical specifications and replacement schedules. This role requires a high degree of attention to detail and a thorough understanding of aviation fuel contamination mechanisms and their consequences.
Minimum Qualifications: Diploma or technical certificate in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering. Minimum 3 years of experience in filtration system maintenance in an aviation fuel or petroleum environment. Familiarity with EI 1581, EI 1540, and JIG filtration standards. Training in aviation fuel quality control is highly desirable.
