Full-time Faculty, Graphic Design

This position accepts local candidates only.

Classification: Faculty (Institutional Support)

Reports To: Dean, School of Architecture and Design

Location:Saad Al Abdullah, Kuwait


Position Summary:
The School of Architecture and Design invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Graphic Design at the rank of Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.The successful candidate will specialize in Illustration and Printmaking anddemonstrateexcellence in studio-based teaching, an active research and/or professional creative practice, and engagement with both traditional and contemporary visual communication methodologies. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate education, curriculum development, student mentorship,accreditationreadiness, and institutional service within a collaborative and multicultural academic environment.

Key Responsibilities


Teaching and Curriculum Development:

  • Deliver undergraduate studio and lecture courses in Illustration and Printmaking, including traditional and digital illustration techniques, printmaking processes (e.g., screen printing, relief, intaglio, experimental print), and visual storytelling.
  • Integrate contemporary tools and hybrid methodologies combining traditional print techniques with digital platforms.
  • Develop and update course content in alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements (e.g., NASAD).
  • Supervise senior capstone projects and guide students in professional portfolio development.
  • Maintain rigorous studio critique practices and structured assessment methodologies.


Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity:

  • Maintain an active research agenda and/or professional creative practice in illustration, printmaking, or related visual arts disciplines.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Participate in exhibitions, juried shows, artist residencies, or professional collaborations.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary research initiatives and pursue external funding where applicable.
  • Contribute to enhancing theSchool'sacademic and professional reputation.
  • Service and Institutional Engagement:
  • Engage actively in departmental, school, and university committees.
  • Support program assessment, accreditation documentation, and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in student recruitment, outreach initiatives, exhibitions, competitions, and community engagement.
  • Offer academic advising and mentorship to students.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.

Qualifications


Required

  • Academic Credentials:
    PhD in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a closely related field or MFA in Graphic Design, Illustration, or Printmaking from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching Experience:
    Minimum of five years of university-level teaching experience (for senior ranks), withdemonstratedexcellence in studio-based instruction in illustration and/or printmaking.
  • Professional Expertise:
    Strong portfolioevidencingprofessional and/or research-based work in illustration and printmaking.
  • Technical Skills:
    Proficiency in traditional printmaking techniques and digital design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, illustration platforms, digital print workflows).
  • Research and Scholarship:
    Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, creative production, or recognized professional practice.
  • Communication Skills:
    Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Cultural Competency:
    Experience working effectively in multicultural academic environments.

Preferred

  • Emerging and Hybrid Practices:
    Experience integrating digital fabrication, experimental print processes, or AI-assisted illustration tools.
  • Accreditation Experience:
    Familiarity with NASAD or similar international accreditation standards.
  • Industry Engagement:
    Professional practice experience in publishing, branding, editorial illustration, or print studios.
  • Capstone Supervision:
    Experience supervising senior thesis or graduation projects.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
    Record of collaborative research or externally funded creative initiatives.
