Primary Purpose
Own cash, margin, and compliance to turn our growth strategy into reliable unit economics and cash conversion across our revenue streams. Build the finance function, strengthen controls, and secure the working capital to scale.
Lead working capital optimisation and banking strategy to enable rapid payment operations as a competitive advantage; provide deal-level financial modelling (including invoice financing impacts on margin and risk) to support commercial decision-making; and structure/secure financing for asset-backed initiatives and aircraft teardown projects.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Business Planning
- Act as a core member of the Leadership Team: shape strategy, translate it into financial and operational plans, and drive cross-functional execution.
- Co-lead the annual plan, quarterly priorities, and rolling reforecast; run scenario modelling across funding, inventory levels, pricing, and capacity.
- Own the finance scorecard: performance narrative, KPI trends, risks/opportunities, and clear decisions required.
- Partner with Commercial and Operations on capital allocation (stock buys, warehousing, working capital) to maximise ROI and protect gross margin.
- Manage external relationships that underpin planning and governance (lenders, auditors, tax advisors).
- Strategic Financial Planning: Support business growth targets through budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation.
Strategic & Commercial Finance
- Translate strategy into unit economics and funding plans across broking, stockholding, storage, e-commerce, and repair services.
- Design, secure, and manage working-capital facilities (asset-based lending, trade finance, credit insurance) with clean covenant reporting.
- Partner with Sales to set pricing guardrails and a data-driven discount-exception process that protects margin while enabling conversion.
- Deal-Level Financial Modelling & Business Case Development: Analyse customer-specific deals where extended payment terms (e.g. 75 days vs. standard 3045) require invoice financing; model the true margin impact after financing costs, assess risk exposure, and present clear business cases to support BDM decision-making on whether to proceed.
Treasury, Cash & Risk
- Establish treasury policy covering cash buffers, payment calendar, banking relationships, and FX risk approach.
- Run a disciplined cash cycle: baseline and improve DSO, DPO, DIO and the cash conversion cycle; publish and maintain a 13-week cash forecast with variance tracking.
- Working Capital Management: Oversee and optimise cash flow, debtor/creditor cycles, and liquidity to support rapid payment operations and competitive advantage.
Banking & Financial Institution Relationships
- Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions; navigate the unique risk perception challenges aviation businesses face in securing financial services.
- Maintain disciplined lender/bank governance (reporting packs, facility performance, and internal controls transparency) to protect access and improve terms over time.
Asset Financing & Aircraft Teardown
- Structure and secure financing for aircraft teardown projects, including asset valuation inputs, deal structuring, and ROI analysis.
- Build teardown investment cases (cash timing, yield assumptions, downside risks) and track outcomes vs business case to inform future investment decisions.
Financial Operations, Controls & Compliance
- Own the control environment and policy library (credit, expense, purchasing, delegations of authority) and ensure audit readiness.
- Oversee statutory accounts and external audits.
Systems & Data (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central + BI)
- Oversee finance configuration, controls, and reporting: lock posting groups and dimensions, enforce AP/expenses approvals, harden inventory-costing integrity, and enable bank auto matching.
- Oversee the delivery of practical dashboards for P&L by dimension/BDM, collections/aging, working capital, and margin.
Pricing & Inventory Economics
- Implement margin guardrails and weekly exception reviews with Sales; reduce discount leakage and protect gross profit.
- Set inventory policies and track GMROI, turnover, and write-offs to support profitable growth
People Leadership
- Directly manage two roles: AR/AP & Credit Controller and Finance Ops & Systems Lead (ERP and processes).
- Define standards, coach for performance, and plan for future hires as we scale.
- Finance Team Leadership: Manage and develop the finance team, ensuring robust reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency.
What you bring
- Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA), typically 710 years post-qualification, ideally with scale-up experience in B2B supply/logistics or a related industrial/aviation setting.
- Proven working-capital management and lender-relationship experience (ABL, trade finance, credit insurance).
- ERP ownership (ideally Dynamics 365 Business Central) and pragmatic BI literacy.
- Comfortable building from scratch, moving fast, and switching between strategic altitude and operational detail.
- Experience coordinating audit and tax across multiple jurisdictions is a plus.
- Strong deal-level modelling capability (extended terms, invoice financing, risk/return and true-margin view) and confidence presenting clear business cases.
- Experience structuring asset-backed financing / investment cases, including valuation inputs and ROI analysis.
