Head of Hedge Fund Investments
Location: Abu Dhabi
We are supporting a leading sovereign investment platform in Abu Dhabi on a senior hire within its hedge fund investment team.
This is a senior role within a well-established team focused on macro, systematic and absolute return strategies. The remit is primarily to invest in external macro hedge funds, while also contributing to co-investments, strategy development and broader portfolio construction work.
They are looking for someone with a strong fund of funds / hedge fund investing background, but this is not a pure allocator profile. The ideal candidate must also have real trading, risk-taking or risk allocation experience, with a genuine understanding of PnL, portfolio construction and hedge fund-style investing.
Responsibilities
- Lead manager selection and due diligence across macro hedge funds and related absolute return strategies
- Evaluate external managers across process, performance, risk, portfolio construction and PnL drivers
- Monitor existing investments and make recommendations on sizing, retention and re-allocation
- Help develop co-investment opportunities and contribute to internal strategy discussions
- Work closely with senior stakeholders on portfolio construction and capital allocation
- Support the continued growth of the team and investment platform
Candidate Profile
- 15+ years of experience across hedge funds, fund of funds, institutional investing or related buy-side roles
- Strong experience investing in or allocating to macro hedge funds
- Must also have a trading, investing or risk allocation background, whether in macro, equity long/short or a similar hedge fund environment
- Strong understanding of PnL, risk and portfolio construction
- A systematic or quantitative mindset would be highly valued
- Exposure to machine learning, advanced statistics or quantitative research would be a strong plus
- Ideally holds a PhD or similarly strong academic background
- Bank training earlier in the career would be preferred
