Job Description

Role Summary:

Responsible to lead the strategic direction and management of the Life Sciences department. This role encompasses oversight of conservation, education and research, project management, and collaboration with key stakeholders to facilitate breeding, animal exchanges and become part of European and American animal associations.

Main Duties:

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Life Sciences Department.
  • Ensure alignment of departmental goals with the overall mission of our client.
  • Promote a culture of excellence in zoology, veterinary services, research, education, and outreach. Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of faculty, researchers, and support staff.
  • Oversees the collection's veterinary health functions including medical treatments and the administration of animal medications.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage departmental dynamics.
  • Monitor and ensure the Zoo and animal collections are properly maintained.
  • Work with the curators to facilitate breeding programs and exchanges with other zoological institutions locally/internationally.
  • Work directly with the maintenance department in the development and implementation of short and long-term plans for projects.
  • Ensure safety protocols pertaining to the handling and care of exotic animals are maintained.
  • Develops and administers the life science's budget; monitors and authorizes expenditures related to animals.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all State laws, regulations, rules, and standards pertaining to zoo management and exotic animal care.
  • Coordinates inspections and maintains all required permits and accreditations necessary for the operation of the Zoo.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with zoological institutions, research organizations, and funding bodies for conservation and education projects.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Zoology, Veterinary Medicine, or related field.
  • Experience 10 15 years experience directing zoo operations and working with exotic animals; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Skills.
  • Proven experience in international and recognized zoological institutions.
  • Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of current trends and advancements in zoological sciences.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with budget management and securing research funding.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and ethical standards in research and education.
