Job Summary
The HSE Engineer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements across construction and engineering projects. The role ensures full compliance with local regulations, international standards, and project-specific HSE plans, while supporting site teams in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment Management
- Implement and monitor the approved HSE Management Plan on site.
- Ensure compliance with local authority requirements and international HSE standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Site Supervision & Compliance
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure safe work practices.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to enforce HSE requirements.
- Stop unsafe work activities when necessary and report violations.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and HSE awareness sessions.
- Ensure all site personnel are trained and aware of HSE procedures.
- Maintain records of inductions, trainings, and safety briefings.
Incident Management & Reporting
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Prepare incident reports with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Monitor implementation of corrective actions and preventive measures.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain HSE documentation, permits, inspection checklists, and reports.
- Prepare periodic HSE performance reports for project management.
- Support internal and external audits and inspections.
Qualifications & Certifications
Education
- University Degree in Engineering or a related discipline, aligned with the nature of the project.
- Degree must be from a recognized and accredited university.
Professional Certifications (Mandatory any of the following):
- NEBOSH (International General Certificate / Level 6)
- IOSH (Level 3 or Level 6)
- NVQ Level 5
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent international certification
Experience Requirements
- 7 to 12 years of full-time experience as an HSE professional.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Proven experience working on engineering or construction projects.
