Heavy Bus Driver
Position Summary
A Heavy Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating large buses to transport passengers between designated routes or locations. The role includes ensuring passenger safety, following traffic regulations, performing routine vehicle inspections, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Passenger Transportation
- Operate a heavy bus safely to transport passengers to and from assigned destinations.
- Follow fixed routes, schedules, and timetables as provided by the company.
- Assist passengers while boarding and exiting the bus, including those with special needs.
- Ensure all passengers are seated or properly positioned before movement.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all local traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company driving policies.
- Maintain safe driving practices in all weather and road conditions.
- Enforce safety rules onboard, including wearing seatbelts where required.
- Respond appropriately to emergency or unexpected situations.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to check brakes, lights, tires, fuel, oil, and other critical systems.
- Report mechanical problems or safety issues to maintenance staff.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentable condition of the bus.
Customer Service
- Provide courteous, professional service to passengers at all times.
- Answer passenger questions and provide route or schedule information.
- Handle customer complaints or issues calmly and respectfully.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, log sheets, fuel usage, and service times.
- Complete incident or accident reports when required.
- Follow company procedures for reporting delays or route changes.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with dispatchers, supervisors, and traffic controllers.
- Inform the relevant department of any operational issues or delays.
- Communicate clearly with passengers, especially during route changes or emergencies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid Heavy Bus Driving License (e.g., Bus/Passenger/Heavy Vehicle License as per local regulation).
- Minimum 25 years of professional heavy bus driving experience.
- Excellent knowledge of traffic rules, defensive driving, and passenger safety techniques.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and focused during emergencies.
- Physically fit and capable of long driving hours.
Working Conditions
- May involve long shifts, weekends, or holiday schedules.
- Driving in varied weather, traffic, and road conditions.
