Job Purpose
HVAC Senior Design Engineer is responsible for developing, reviewing, and optimizing HVAC system designs for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with international standards, codes, and project requirements. The role provides technical expertise, supports coordination across disciplines, and guides junior engineers in delivering accurate and efficient design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC system designs, calculations, layouts, and equipment specifications.
- Conduct cooling/heating load calculations, duct sizing, and equipment selection.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA) and sustainability requirements.
- Review and validate HVAC design outputs prepared by junior engineers and draftsmen.
- Contribute to value engineering by proposing cost-effective, energy-efficient design solutions.
- Coordinate HVAC designs with electrical, plumbing, firefighting, architectural, and structural teams.
- Participate in project design meetings and provide technical input to resolve design conflicts.
- Provide technical support to site teams during construction (RFIs, clarifications, modifications).
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of design deliverables.
- Maintain proper documentation of calculations, design files, and project records.
- Support internal QA/QC processes and ensure adherence to company design standards.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior engineers and draftsmen.
- Share knowledge on latest HVAC design tools, technologies, and sustainability practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC specialization preferred).
- 57 years of experience in HVAC design, preferably in consultancy firms.
- Proven track record in designing HVAC systems for medium-to-large scale projects (commercial, residential, healthcare, or industrial).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in HVAC design software: HAP, Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Carrier E20, or similar tools.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Very good command of English (written & spoken).
