Job Description

Job Summary

The Instrument Technician works under the direction of the Instrumentation Supervisor/Engineer to execute Preventive, Corrective, and Condition-Based Maintenance activities. The role includes participation in annual outages, equipment overhauls, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and maintenance procedures within the plant.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure all duties are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with NOMAC safety rules and regulations.
  • Carry out all plant maintenance activities safely and within defined timelines, strictly following applicable maintenance procedures and work instructions. Ensure proper documentation of maintenance history for all equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Instrumentation Supervisor/Engineer for required spare parts and consumables, and update the status of spare availability.
  • Ensure proper equipment isolation before starting maintenance, in coordination with the Supervisor and local operators.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform maintenance on equipment within assigned responsibility. Must have strong knowledge of control and logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and protection drawings.
  • Install, adjust, inspect, service, and repair various instruments and equipment such as PLCs, DCS, and systems used in power and desalination plants.
  • Carry out all necessary preparations for instrumentation maintenance activities in assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment operation and associated operating systems.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards (5S) in the work area.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors or management.

Job SpecificationsEducational Requirements

  • Desired: Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering OR Minimum 6 years of experience as a Skilled Instrumentation Labor in NOMAC plants
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation/Electrical/Electronics Engineering

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 4 years in a similar position OR Minimum 6 years as Skilled Instrumentation Labor in NOMAC plants
  • Preferable: Extensive experience in any of the following plant types:
    • Conventional Power Plants
    • Combined Cycle
    • Cogeneration
    • Desalination Plants (RO, MSF, MED, etc.)
    • Renewable Energy Plants (Solar, Wind, etc.)
Required Skills

  • Awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System principles.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, demonstrating accountability and efficiency.
  • Willingness to work in non-ideal conditions including confined spaces, heights, and areas involving chemicals.
  • Strong understanding and compliance with safety practices related to:
  • Respiratory protection
  • Elevated work platforms
  • Fall protection
  • Hazardous energy control (Lockout/Tag-out)
  • Fire protection systems
  • Electrical safety
  • Confined space entry
  • PPE standards
  • Knowledge of waste identification, classification, and disposal methods.
  • Awareness of health and environmental impacts of chemicals used in the plant.
  • Familiarity with firefighting equipment and first-aid measures.
  • Basic understanding of power and water plant operations.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Desired Certifications / Training

  • Knowledge or awareness of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.

Work Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to work in remote plant locations.
