Job Description

Role Summary:

The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the overall performance, security, and availability of our organization's IT systems. This role includes managing cloud infrastructure, system administration, storage, backups, email systems, and endpoints. The Senior System Administrator will work closely with the IT team to ensure smooth operations and proactive support of business-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

System Administration & IT Infrastructure Management:

o Administer and manage the organization's servers, operating systems, and network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.

o Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and patch management to keep systems secure and up to date.

o Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues efficiently to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.

Cloud Infrastructure & Virtualization Management:

o Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.), ensuring seamless integration with on-premise systems and optimized resource allocation.

o Oversee virtualized environments, including the deployment, maintenance, and performance tuning of virtual machines and services.

o Optimize cloud costs and resources to align with organizational needs and budgets.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

o Design, implement, and maintain automated backup solutions to ensure that critical data is securely backed up and can be restored in case of failure.

o Develop and execute disaster recovery plans to ensure the organization's data and systems are protected against potential threats.

o Perform regular backup tests and audits to ensure reliability and recovery speed.

Email Systems Administration:

o Administer and support enterprise-level email systems (e.g., Microsoft Exchange, Office 365) to ensure smooth and uninterrupted email communication.

o Troubleshoot and resolve email issues, including spam filtering, delivery problems, and security threats.

o Implement and manage email archiving, encryption, and compliance features.

Endpoint Management & Security:

o Manage the organization's endpoints, including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices, ensuring they are properly configured, secure, and maintained.

o Implement and enforce endpoint security policies to protect against malware, ransomware, and other security threats.

o Provide end-user support and resolve issues related to endpoint performance and security.

Storage Management:

o Oversee the organization's storage solutions, ensuring efficient data management, scaling, and protection.

o Configure and manage storage systems such as SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) to support growing data needs.

o Monitor storage utilization, plan for future growth, and implement appropriate archiving and data retention policies.

Security & Compliance:

o Ensure that systems, data, and infrastructure meet organizational security standards and regulatory compliance requirements.

o Conduct regular system audits to ensure security best practices are being followed, including access controls and vulnerability assessments.

o Implement and manage security tools such as firewalls, antivirus, and encryption for endpoint protection and secure data transfer.

Automation & Scripting:

o Automate routine administrative tasks such as backups, patches, and system updates using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, etc.).

o Implement monitoring and alerting systems to track performance and proactively address system issues before they impact business operations.

Documentation & Reporting:

o Maintain detailed documentation for all systems, including configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps.

o Generate regular reports on system performance, storage usage, backup success, and security incidents to keep management informed.

Collaboration & Team Support:

o Work closely with other IT teams to provide support for infrastructure projects, system upgrades, and troubleshooting.

o Mentor junior administrators and provide guidance to improve team skills and knowledge.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Background:

o Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience:

o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in system administration, with significant expertise in cloud infrastructure, backup, storage, email systems, and endpoint management.

o Experience managing enterprise-level systems, email systems (e.g., Exchange, Office 365), cloud environments (AWS, Azure), and storage solutions (SAN, NAS).

Technical Skills:

o Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/Unix, and cloud-based infrastructure.

o Expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

o Experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault) and disaster recovery planning.

o Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and related services (e.g., EC2, S3, Azure VMs).

o Familiarity with email systems like Microsoft Exchange or Office 365.

o Knowledge of storage management systems such as SAN and NAS.

o Experience with endpoint management tools (e.g., Kaspersky, Symantec) and security software (e.g., Antivirus, Firewalls).

o Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and systems management.

o SharePoint administration, including user and permission management, site collections, content management, backup and recovery, and integration with Microsoft 365 services.

Soft Skills:

o Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

o Strong communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and translating technical issues into understandable terms.

o Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications: Certifications in Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, or other relevant certifications.

Experience in Retail or E-commerce: Familiarity with IT systems in retail or high-transaction environments is a plus.

Virtualization Knowledge: Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.
