Job purpose:
The Instructional Design Intern supports the digital learning team in designing, developing, and refining learning experiences across microlearning, e-learning, and video-based formats. This role provides structured, hands-on exposure to corporate instructional design practice and is suited to a student or early-career professional seeking practical experience in digital learning content development, tool usage, and professional collaboration within an L&D environment.
Learning Design & Content Development
- Assist in designing learning experiences, including storyboards, slide decks, and simple e-learning modules.
- Support the creation of short learning videos (3–5 minutes) using provided scripts, assets, and templates.
- Help convert raw content from subject matter experts into structured learning materials including objectives, key messages, quizzes, and job aids.
Content Management & Documentation
- Update and maintain course assets, templates, and file structures in the content library and LMS.
- Participate in project meetings and capture action items, version histories, and basic documentation.
Iteration & Quality
- Incorporate feedback from the instructional design lead and stakeholders, making iterative improvements to drafts.
- Check spelling, formatting, and file naming consistency across all deliverables in line with templates and brand standards.
Education requirements
- Currently studying (or recently graduated) in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, Psychology, Multimedia, or a related field.
- Strong written and spoken English; able to simplify complex ideas into clear, learner-friendly language.
- Demonstrated interest in digital learning, content creation, or education through university projects, portfolios, volunteering, or personal projects.
Experience
- Prior exposure to digital learning, content design, or education-related projects (academic or extracurricular) is advantageous.
- Comfortable using tools such as PowerPoint or Google Slides and standard office applications.
- Basic familiarity with any authoring or media tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rise, Camtasia, Canva, or simple video editors) is preferred.
Knowledge and skills
- Instructional Design Concepts: Basic understanding of learning objectives, assessments, sequencing, and microlearning principles.
- Digital Tools: Comfortable with PowerPoint, Google Slides, and standard productivity tools; exposure to authoring or media tools is a plus.
- Content Simplification: Ability to distil complex information into clear, structured, learner-friendly language.
- Visual Design Awareness: Basic graphic or visual design sense including layout, use of images and icons, and brand consistency.
- LMS & Content Libraries: Awareness of how learning content is organised and maintained within LMS environments.
