Job Description

Instrumentation Engineer Key Accountabilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Serve as a role model for safety, embracing a work safely or not at all mindset.
  • Identify and address at-risk behaviors to achieve zero incidents.
  • Ensure all instruments comply with CPChem engineering standards to mitigate accident risks.
  • Exhibit good environmental stewardship and comply with regulatory standards.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Maintain equipment availability at the highest feasible operating level, leveraging new technologies and maintenance practices.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify gaps and drive improvements.
  • Apply reliability tools (e.g., FMEA, RBI, RCM) to optimize costs and enhance asset availability.
  • Conduct reliability and data analysis to assess instrument performance.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, using a criticality matrix and min/max levels.
  • Establish and optimize instrument preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Lead and support Management of Change (MOC) activities, including documentation updates.
  • Support incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide technical leadership and support to instrumentation and electrical maintenance teams.
  • Oversee new instrument design, installation, and integration to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and maintain historical performance data to identify and address bad/worst actors.
  • Establish calibration procedures for unique instruments (e.g., Nuclear, GWR NCR).
  • Evaluate and recommend instrument upgrades for enhanced facility performance.
  • Review instrument unit costs and suggest optimizations for long-term savings.
  • Address obsolescence issues by planning upgrades and replacements.
  • Prepare technical reports and studies as needed.

Project & Budget Management

  • Assist in developing the annual maintenance budget and ensure compliance with financial plans.
  • Manage smaller maintenance and reliability initiatives, including field instrument modifications.
  • Provide discipline engineering and design for capital and expense projects.
  • Support major shutdowns, construction, and alteration projects with instrumentation expertise.
  • Execute Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities (e.g., FAT, SAT, Loop Sells).

Training & Communication

  • Facilitate training for staff to align maintenance practices with industry standards.
  • Maintain effective communication with technical, maintenance, operations, and project teams.
  • Serve as the primary contact for instrumentation OEMs and external vendors.
  • Develop maintenance documentation guidelines to ensure compliance and knowledge preservation.

Academic Qualification: Bachelor's degree
