To provide specialized services for the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiovascular disease as well as congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.
The Interventional Cardiologist is a staff member of the Cardiology Services Division of the Medical Operations Department. Provides direct clinical treatment services to outpatients and inpatients who have disorders of the cardiovascular system, such as unstable angina and acute coronary syndromes, congestive heart failure, valvular disease, congenital heart disease, and arrhythmia disorders. Invasive procedures will include but is not limited to diagnostic coronary arteriography, temporary pacemaker implantation, Swan-Ganz insertion, and emergency pericardocentesis. In addition to performing catheter-based procedures, will be responsible for performing and interpreting the following studies: EKG's, transthoracic echo Doppler studies, Holter monitors and stress tests including both exercise and pharmacological stress tests. Additional privileges may be requested to perform transcatheter valve replacement, pacemaker insertion, or specialized echo Doppler procedures, such as transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography and contract echo.
Will report directly to the Chief of Cardiology Services Division, and must actively participate in all the clinical, educational, and quality improvement activities of the division. Serves as the physician in charge of Cardiac Cath Lab and resource individual for other invasive cardiology colleagues and staff.
The Interventional Cardiologist will be in daily contact with patients, particularly their families as well as nurses, cardiovascular technologists, catheterization laboratory staff as well as other members of the Cardiology Services Division. In addition, may be in contact with the internists and other subspecialties of the Internal Medicine Services Division as well as the Surgical Services Division if requested to do so on consultation. The Interventional Cardiologist will also be consulted by the members of the Ambulatory Services Division including General Practitioners (family physicians) and internists both from Dhahran Health Center and the districts.
Minimum of three years practice in the field of interventional cardiology following successful completion of fellowship.
