Lab Specialist - Computer Science (UAEN)

Job Purpose:

Lab Specialist is responsible to support the functioning and development of science labs and to work closely with Department faculty to provide high quality technical and teaching support in science labs.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Assist in the pursuit of the highest quality of classroom and laboratory teaching by coordinating the timely and effective delivery of laboratory equipment and materials in support of the science programs demonstrations and practical classes

Set up and to test laboratory equipment and materials required for laboratory experiments and be on-site and immediately available throughout each practical examination.

Support the delivery of teaching and learning activities.

Demonstrate and provide instruction to students in proper use and care of laboratory materials and equipment.

Guide students in using lab tools and software related to their coursework.

Support the laboratory programmes for students entered for practical tests, Education and other external programmes

Maintain documentation related to experiments, equipment usage, and safety procedures.

Contribute to the improvement of Science programs by helping the Science faculty improve and extend their classroom demonstrations and laboratory practical classes

Support the activities of the Science Clubs

Maintain all laboratory equipment, glassware and associated teaching resources in accordance with good laboratory practice and the maintenance procedures laid down by the manufacturers

Maintain an inventory of lab supplies and reorder as necessary.

Make a note of the requirements for the purchase of apparatus and equipment and to maintain correct stock levels, purchasing consumables and replacement items of equipment as required

Oversee the laboratory's maintenance, and differentiation

Perform routine inspections and calibration of lab instruments.

Keep records of equipment maintenance schedules and logs.

Support the Departmental audits and action plans and the College's action plan for continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence.

Undertake appropriate tasks allocated by the Dean and chairs of science departments

Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly

Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed

Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
