Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing, lab equipment, and student drawers for teaching labs, ensuring that all materials are ready for instructional use. This role involves maintaining laboratory facilities and the stockroom, coordinating with faculty to plan laboratory exercises, and conducting tests, experiments, and demonstrations. Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with health and safety standards to maintain a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
Job Description
- Perform laboratory tests on: Concrete, cement, aggregates, soil, asphalt, and steel.
- Conduct field tests when required (slump test, compaction, density, cube sampling).
- Prepare, label, and store test samples correctly.
- Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
- Record test results accurately and prepare test reports.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Follow QA/QC procedures and safety regulations.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Laboratory Technology.
- Training in laboratory safety and quality standards (ISO / ASTM / BS).
- 13 years of experience in an engineering or construction materials lab.
- Experience in construction projects or consultancy labs is an advantage.
- Ability to follow testing procedures strictly.
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Teamwork and coordination with engineers and site staff.
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to lift samples and stand for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, lab reporting software).
