The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Civil/Structural Designer to join our UAE Business Unit.

Wood has been awarded an Onshore Project to support an International Client operation by providing Engineering Services plus Project Management, Supply Chain, Construction, Commissioning, EPC Management support both within Iraq and Dubai offices. The Vision of this Contract is to enhance the production by delivering Greenfield and Brownfield modification projects that include new installations as well as a series of modifications to the existing facilities. Team of Engineers and Designers based in Dubai and Basra supports in execution of these projects.

Key Objectives

General

  • Specialist in Design & Detailing of Civil & Structural works of Oil and Gas projects
  • Experience on preparation of MTO through XL spread sheet will be a plus point
  • Be responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
  • Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
  • Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed schedule
  • Keep up to date with technical developments
  • Prepare estimates and assist in their review
  • Maintain good communication with the team and client
  • Maintain discipline filing system
  • Encourage and provide lateral learning within the project
  • Must have hands-on experience in Concrete, Structural steel, Underground drainage & Layout drawing preparation for EPC and FEED projects

Design & Drafting

  • Prepare and check civil and structural design drawings including:
  • Site layouts, grading, drainage, and earthworks
  • Foundations (shallow, deep, pile, and equipment foundations)
  • Concrete and steel structures
  • Pipe racks, platforms, shelters, and buildings
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using industry-standard tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, SP3D, Navis).
  • Produce design deliverables across Brownfield and Green project phases:
  • Concept, FEED, detailed design, and construction support.

Technical Leadership

  • Interpret engineering calculations, specifications, design basis, and data sheets and translate them into accurate designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team of designers and drafters.
  • Perform checking and review of drawings and models for quality, constructability, clashes, and compliance.

Coordination & Interfaces

  • Coordinate with civil, structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Interface with clients on design-related matters.
  • For brownfield works, clash free interface management with clear understanding of other discipline scopes

Brownfield and Greenfield Project Support

  • Ensure designs comply with WQ1 procedures, project standards, and HSE requirements.
  • Support constructability reviews, model reviews, and design workshops.
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, material lists, and cost estimates as required.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Apply applicable international and local codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, BS, AS, IS).
  • Ensure compliance with project QA/QC processes.
  • Promote safe design principles and constructability best practices.
  • Experience working on brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Carry out work in accordance with Wood and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems

Expected:

  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Bachelor's degree preferred).

Experience:

  • 10-15 years of experience in civil and structural design within EPCM / EPC / consultancy environments.
  • Proven experience on industrial, oil & gas, power, infrastructure, or mining projects (as applicable).
  • Proven experience on Brownfield and Green project projects.
  • Proven experience of Leading design teams
