EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) is the sole procurer and supplier of water and electricity in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. EWEC drives the planning, forecasting, purchasing, and system despatch services of water and electricity. EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. The Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for defining and implementing the organization's cloud strategy through a comprehensive and enterprise-wide perspective, ensuring alignment with all business and regulatory requirements. The role oversees cloud systems architecture, installation, configuration, and ongoing optimization of cloud infrastructure services.
The position leads the design, planning, execution, and continuous maintenance of cloud environments, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and security. Responsibilities include establishing performance and resource utilization metrics, actively monitoring infrastructure health, and ensuring adherence to agreed service levels.
The Senior Cloud Engineer conducts root cause analysis for incidents, implements corrective and preventive measures, and proactively manages capacity across all cloud infrastructure environments. The role also drives automation of operational tasks, health checks, and performance monitoring processes, supports internal and external audit reporting requirements (including vendor audits and compliance exercises), and provides operational support outside regular working hours when required to ensure service continuity.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Cloud Strategy & Enterprise Architecture Alignment
- Define and implement the organization's cloud strategy aligned with enterprise architecture principles, business capabilities, and long-term digital roadmap.
- Develop target-state cloud architecture and transition roadmaps aligned with EA standards and governance.
- Ensure cloud architecture decisions support scalability, resilience, security, cost optimization, and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to enterprise technology standards, reference architectures, and architecture review boards.
- Assess financial and operational impact of cloud technology alternatives and provide strategic recommendations.
- Supports monitoring of the external environment and assessment of emerging technologies.
- Contributes to the creation of reports, technology road mapping and the sharing of knowledge and insights
- Maximize utilization on existing investments.
- Drive the success of cloud initiatives and lead the implementation of new features.
- Ensure correct and complete reporting, including performance and breaches against SLA
- Contribute to monitor and evaluate the infrastructure control environment, including self-assessments.

Cloud Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering
- Design, plan, and manage cloud systems architecture, installation, configuration, and integration.
- Develop and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient cloud environments.

- Oversee configuration management and architectural documentation standards.

- Plan, execute, and maintain infrastructure services across cloud and on-premises environments in alignment with enterprise service management practices.
- Establish performance, availability, and capacity metrics aligned with business SLAs for both cloud-based and on-premises systems.
- Proactively manage resource utilization, cost optimization, and infrastructure lifecycle across all deployment models.
- Monitor and optimize system software, configurations, and service reliability in hybrid environments.
Automation, Engineering Excellence & Innovation (Cloud & On-Premises)
- Lead automation initiatives, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), monitoring automation, and operational process optimization across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Promote DevOps, cloud-native, and on-premises engineering best practices to ensure consistent, efficient operations.
- Maximize return on technology investments through performance tuning and optimization for both cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption aligned with enterprise architecture strategy for hybrid environments.
Incident, Problem, Risk & Service Continuity Management (Cloud & On-Premises)
- Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and ensure preventive controls are implemented across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Identify technical risks, infrastructure debt, and architectural vulnerabilities in hybrid environments.
- Develop mitigation and contingency strategies to ensure business continuity and operational resilience.
- Ensure high availability, resilience, and disaster recovery readiness across all infrastructure environments.
- Analyses service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability.
- Contributes to the availability management process and its operation. Performs defined availability management tasks. Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels.
- Implements arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures. Conducts testing of recovery procedures.
Security, Governance & Compliance (Cloud & On-Premises)
- Ensure cloud and on-premises solutions comply with enterprise security architecture and governance frameworks.
- Apply and maintain security controls aligned with risk management policies for hybrid infrastructure.
- Support internal, regulatory, and vendor audits across all environments.
- Maintain accurate documentation to support compliance, accreditation, and risk transparency.
Project, Stakeholder & Technical Leadership
- Act as Technical Lead and hybrid infrastructure Subject Matter Expert across enterprise initiatives.
- Support project lifecycle governance, including architecture validation, solution review, and acceptance testing for both cloud and on-premises systems.
- Define and manage infrastructure requirements, acceptance criteria, and traceability across hybrid deployments.
- Provide strategic technical advisory services to business and IT stakeholders regarding cloud and on-premises infrastructure strategies
Minimum Experience Level
Technical Expertise
- 5+ years hands-on cloud experience; hybrid infrastructure knowledge.
- Proficient with IaC, automation (PowerShell/Python/Bash), Windows/Linux admin.
- Experience in HA/DR design, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
Experience & Leadership
- 810 years IT Infrastructure/Cloud Engineering experience.
- Led medium-to-large cloud/infrastructure projects.
Security & Compliance
- Knowledge of ITIL, ISO 20000 or ISO 27000 , audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with security frameworks in hybrid cloud environments.
Mandatory Certifications
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- AWS or GCP certifications highly desirable.
