Job Title: Lead Electrical Engineer
Reports To: Project Manager
Job Purpose
To lead and provide expert electrical engineering support across all early and execution phases of mining and industrial projects, including concept studies, pre-FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning. The Lead Electrical Engineer ensures technical integrity, compliance with engineering standards, and alignment with project cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership
- Lead electrical engineering activities across project development stages (Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Engineering).
- Develop and review electrical design basis, load lists, calculations, technical specifications, and scope of work.
- Provide technical direction to electrical engineers and ensure deliverables meet project standards and timelines.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces (Process, Mechanical, C&I, Civil, Structural).
2. Technical Design & Review
- Review and approve single line diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, protection schemes, power distribution layouts, and equipment specifications.
- Perform and review electrical system studies including:
- Load flow analysis
- Short-circuit analysis
- Arc-flash studies
- Relay coordination
- Grounding studies
- Ensure compliance with applicable international and project-specific standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, etc.).
3. Vendor & Procurement Support
- Prepare and review technical bid evaluations (TBE).
- Review vendor documents, datasheets, drawings, and FAT procedures.
- Support procurement activities including RFQs and equipment selection (switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS, VFDs).
4. Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical support during construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning.
- Participate in FAT/SAT and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Resolve site technical queries and recommend design modifications where required.
- Support field inspections and ensure electrical installations meet design intent.
5. Project Controls & Reporting
- Provide input into cost estimates, risk assessments, and schedule development.
- Monitor engineering progress and ensure alignment with baseline plans.
- Identify technical risks and support mitigation strategies.
- Prepare engineering reports and technical recommendations for stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7-9 years of experience in mining, oil & gas, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in FEED and detailed design phases within EPC/EPCM environments.
- Strong knowledge of international electrical codes and standards.
