The Lead Geologist is the most senior field based geologist in the exploration section and will together with the Senior Geologist(s) be responsible for implementing exploration at the Company's sites according to plans and in line with SOPs
These will include (this is not exclusive).
- Support the CEO, Exploration with evaluation of new business and Auction opportunities
- Support the CEO, Exploration with review and support of active joint venture projects as required
- Production of reporting on the company's projects; both text, presentation, and graphical
- Assist in production of exploration budgets and plans
- Be a hands-on mentor for the geological team, leading by example in implementing mapping, geochemical, trenching and drill programs
- Operating Mining and GIS software, e.g. QGIS and Target
- Mentoring and training geological team
- Manage contractor and drilling operations
- The Lead Geologist reports to the CEO, Exploration
- In general, leading and performing all geological duties
Note: This is a field based role on a rotational basis, generally working outside in a harsh climate
Responsibilities:
- Acts as lead geologist
- Leads completion of exploration programs safely, on time, and on budget.
- Manages Senior Geologist and team, providing mentoring and training
- Ensures all work is carried out to expected company technical standards and following SOP, and/or writing SOPs
- Prepares proposed exploration programs with the CEO, Exploration, and lead delivery of these
- Acts as Company site representative for management of contractors, ensuring contracts are followed and smooth implementation
- Maintains a positive relationship with local communities, whilst managing expectations
- Follows the company's standardized exploration procedures, to JORC compliant standards
- Ensures that project reporting requirements are complied with
- Works closely with contractors such as for drilling, and ensuring that any issues are reported to the CEO, Exploration
- Leads completion of geological mapping
- Leads systematic logging of drill core, ensuring all data is captured in line with Company procedures
- Leads RC drill logging in compliance with Company procedures
- Ensures and reports on QAQC
- Acts as site lead on safety and report any accidents or near misses
- Ensures all captured data is stored correctly on the Company's IT systems and shared with the Data Geologist
- Utilises data to produce geological maps and interpretations, and share with the CEO, Exploration
- Takes responsibility for allocated Company equipment and vehicles
- Ensures camp and offices are kept in good order
- Prepares reports on activities as requested
Qualifications
Essential:
- BSc in geology
- Software skills in one or more of MapInfo, QGIS, Micromine (to be assessed at interview)
- A good level of spoken and written English
- KSA Light duty driving license, or an international licence that is accepted for conversion in Saudi Arabia
- Minimum 10 years relevant geology/exploration experience, to include exploration for structurally hosted gold and VMS deposits
- Demonstrable field experience
- Good abilities in structural geology, to be discussed at interview
- Good knowledge of mineral identification/rock description and alteration
- Knowledge of mineral deposit models
- Able to discuss appropriate sampling methodology
- A good level of spoken and written English
- Good report writing skills
- Good graphical communication skills; able to prepare maps, sections, and other materials to a high standard
Desirable:
- Professional accreditation (e.g. AusIMM)
- First Aid qualification
- MSc in mining or mineral exploration
- Arabic language skills
- Health and Safety qualification
