As part of our strategic vision to be a centre of excellence for sport and holistic development, we are seeking a visionary and experienced Head of Swimming and Aquatics to lead our aquatic provision.
Position Overview
The Head of Swimming and Aquatics will lead the development and delivery of a high-performing swimming programme that spans Foundation Stage through to Post-16. The successful candidate will bring leadership, expertise, and passion to elevate swimming as both a curriculum subject and competitive sport. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop the whole school swimming and aquatics provision across curriculum and co-curricular programmes
- Design and oversee the delivery of progressive, age-appropriate swimming lessons aligned with the British curriculum
- Line manage and support aquatic staff, providing professional development and maintaining high teaching and coaching standards
- Organise and lead competitive swim squads, including talent identification, training plans, and gala entries
- Oversee the safe and effective management of the swimming pool, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and risk assessments
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Sport and PE Department to align swimming with whole school sporting and wellbeing goals
- Organise internal and external aquatic events, including swim galas, festivals, and inter-school competitions
- Develop pathways for high-performing swimmers, connecting them with local clubs and external opportunities
- Monitor pupil progress, maintaining accurate records and reporting to parents and school leaders
- Promote the aquatics programme within the school and wider community through marketing, events, and outreach initiatives
Qualifications & Requirements
- Level 2 Swimming Coaching Qualification (essential)
- Valid Lifeguard Qualification (essential)
- At least 3 years of experience leading or coordinating a school or club swimming programme
- Strong understanding of curriculum-based swimming and athlete development pathways
- Proven track record in leading teams and improving performance outcomes
- Experience in organising and officiating swimming competitions
- Knowledge of health and safety in aquatic settings, including NOP/EAP compliance
- Experience in international or British curriculum schools (preferred)
